@MusaliaMudavadi
At State House, Nairobi, I had the privilege of sharing in a moment of history as H.E. President @WilliamsRuto
received His Highness Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, marking his very first visit to Kenya since assuming the leadership of the Shia Ismaili Imamat.

Kenya holds a deep and enduring bond with the Ismaili Imamat, strengthened over the decades through the transformative work of the Aga Khan Development Network. Its partnership with our nation continues to mirror our collective aspirations: uplifting the lives of ordinary Kenyans, fostering shared prosperity, and building a future that is equitable, dignified, and sustainable.

As we look ahead, I am confident that this visit will open new frontiers of cooperation in areas central to Kenya’s transformation journey, from education, health, and environmental stewardship to banking, infrastructure, tourism, energy, and agri-processing. These partnerships remain vital in shaping a Kenya that thrives at home and competes globally.

I warmly congratulate His Highness Aga Khan V on receiving the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H.), our country’s highest civilian honour, during the investiture ceremony at State House. I also extend my best wishes for a fulfilling and memorable stay in Kenya, a land that proudly treasures friendship, collaboration, and progress.

William Samoei Ruto, PhD
@WilliamsRuto
We deeply value our close ties with the Ismaili Imamat, which have fostered strong collaboration in critical areas such as healthcare, education, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation.

This partnership has delivered health facilities that serve over 900,000 patients annually, supported nearly 1,000 public schools, and facilitated the planting of 1.5 million trees in Kenya over the past three years.

We look forward to expanding our cooperation in the Affordable Housing Programme, which will provide safe homes and create thousands of jobs, as well as in the Nairobi River Regeneration through the Climate WorX initiative, which already engages 40,000 Kenyans in restoring ecosystems and renewing our capital city.

At State House, Nairobi, I hosted His Highness Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, whom I congratulated on assuming the leadership of the Shia Ismaili Imamat and on receiving our nation’s highest civilian honour, the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H.).

I also congratulated Princess Zahra Aga Khan on being awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (E.G.H.) for her lifelong service to health, education, and social development.

President William Ruto has awarded the global leader of Ismaili Muslims, His Highness Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, Kenya’s highest national civilian honour, the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (CGH).

The award is in recognition of Prince Aga Khan V’s personal commitment and the Aga Khan Development Network’s (AKDN) distinguished service to the people of Kenya over the years.

Conferring the award at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday, President Ruto said: “This moment is both historic and symbolic.”

He added: “It affirms Kenya’s deep appreciation of the enduring legacy of the Ismaili Imamat, whose service to humanity has long been a pillar of our national journey.”

Image

Prince Aga Khan V became the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims in February 2025 following the death of his father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV.

Through the Aga Khan Development Network, which he chairs, the Ismaili Muslim community worldwide has invested in various sectors of the economy, including media, education, health, banking, insurance, tourism, and hospitality.

In Kenya, they run the Diamond Trust Bank, Serena Hotels, Jubilee Insurance, Nation Media Group, Aga Khan University Hospital, and Aga Khan University, among others.

“These contributions align seamlessly with our Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which is anchored in equity, opportunity, and dignity for all Kenyans,” President Ruto said.

In his acceptance speech, Prince Aga Khan V said Kenya has a special place in the hearts of his family, pointing out that some of them, including his late father and uncle, partly grew up in the country.

“Some of the earliest Aga Khan development projects from the time of my great grandfather were launched in this country; and many of them are still operating today,” he said.

He added: “In Kenya, we have found a Government and a society that have consistently welcomed these efforts and supported them with vision and resolve.”

The two leaders signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Kenya and the Ismailia Imamat for the provision of the framework for recognition of the Ismaili Imamat as the legal entity representing the office of the Imam of the Shia Imami Muslims to engage with the government on international relations.

The other MoU is between the Government of Kenya and the Ismaili Imamat on General Cooperation, which will provide the framework for bilateral cooperation in environmental conservation, urban rehabilitation and cultural heritage preservation.

Flagship initiatives expected to benefit under the cooperation include the Nairobi River Regeneration Project, National Museums Development, and City Park Rehabilitation.

“With AKDN’s proven expertise in conservation, cultural heritage, and community-driven development, I am confident we can expand the scale and impact of these initiatives so that climate action delivers both ecological restoration and human dignity,” he said.

During the function, Prince Aga Khan V’s sister, Princess Zahra, was also awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) for her leadership in advancing health, education and social development in Kenya and beyond.

Present at the event were Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, and Attorney-General Dorcas Oduor.

Others were Cabinet Secretaries Aden Duale (Health), Julius Ogamba (Education), Hassan Joho (Mining) and John Mbadi (Treasury), Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa and Principal Secretaries, among others.

Quote

Gist of Farman for Jamat on 27th August 2025 morning.

My Beloved Spiritual Children,

Today has been a day of immense happiness. Mawlana Hazar Imam was visibly joyful, smiling and waving lovingly to the children as He walked along the red carpet—pausing again and again to acknowledge them with affection.

The gathering began with the recitation of Ginans and the Giryazari tasbih. The Mukhi of Darkhana pledged bay‘ah on behalf of the Jamat, following which the President recalled the long and historic bond between the Imamat and Kenya. She reminded the Jamat how Mawlana Sultan Muhammad Shah celebrated His Jubilee in Kenya, how Mawlana Hazar Imam graced the Takht Nashini, the Silver Jubilee, the Golden Jubilee, and the Diamond Jubilee, and how He has visited the country many times. She recalled with emotion how Mawlana Shah Rahim Hazar Imam had first come with Shah Karim when He was only ten years old, and how that memory has remained fresh in the hearts of the Jamat.

When Mawlana Hazar Imam came to the microphone, He paused for several moments in silence. With great emotion He said: “I need to pause, because this is a deeply moving moment.”

He began His Farman by bestowing blessings upon the Jamat, especially those within the Kenya jurisdiction who were unable to be present that day. He accepted the bay‘ah of the Jamat, reminding everyone that the bay‘ah is a lifelong bond between the Murid and the Imam.

Mawlana Hazar Imam noted with joy that He recognized many familiar faces—friends who had worked with Him over the years. He shared that Prince Irfan and Prince Sinan had returned to school, joking that they were quite happy!!! about it.

He recalled with pride that His late father had been honoured by the Government of Kenya, and that He Himself had also received same recognition. He expressed happiness that Princess Zahra’s three decades of dedicated work had also been recognized with a national award, and He shared how proud He was of her service and public recognition made Him happy.

Mawlana Hazar Imam spoke warmly of Kenya as a country, describing it as a place very special to His late father who spend His childhood in Kenya and his children too likes to be in Kenya He promised that He would return again with His children. He reminded the Jamat that the Ismaili presence in Kenya spans more than a century, with schools, financial institutions, and community services established and serving society for generations.

Mawlabapa shared that yesterday wherever I had been, I heard good things about My Jamat. I am happy that My Jamat is well recognised and I emphasized that the conduct of every Ismaili should be such that others may say: “If an Ismaili has spoken, it must be true. If an Ismaili has committed, it will be reliable.”

Mawla shared that we have to take an example of Nabi Rasul (SAS) – peace be upon Him – how He lived His life exemplarily and treated people well.

When you remember Allah, observe around you His creation. Remember Prophets, remember Imams.

Mawlana Hazar Imam extended abundant blessings to the Volunteers, recalling the words of His Grandfather, that when the Imam is happy, He gives opportunities for service, and when He is even more happier, He gives greater opportunities for service.

He spoke with deep concern about loneliness among both the elderly and the youth, saying that such isolation saddened Him greatly. He urged the Jamat to bring such individuals back into the community by engaging them, and to make them feel part of the community, for this too is a noble form of service.

He encouraged the Jamat to be active regularly for sometime, to play sports, and to make use of the community facilities. He emphasized that sports strengthen both physical and mental health, and that these facilities should not remain unused.

Mawlana Hazar Imam reminded the Jamat that kindness, treating people with dignity, helping those in need, and supporting and caring for one another are all fundamental expressions of faith.

He stressed the importance of ethics, urging the Jamat to earn through honest and lawful means. He cautioned against spending resources recklessly: “Do not live as though there is no tomorrow. Tomorrow will sure come"

He encouraged to learn new skills and not to be afraid of adapting to change. He said: “I want my Jamat to prosper, to live in comfort, and to be happy.”

He reminded Jamat that even the economically less privileged must first prioritised health. Regular medical check-ups should not be neglected until illness strikes.

Mawlana Hazar Imam also spoke about multi-faith families, urging the Jamat to be inclusive and welcoming, granting full access to community facilities, except during the time of prayers, which remain a private spiritual bond between Imam and Murid.

Mawla blessed and prayed for spiritual upliftment, peace, unity of the jamat.

After the Nazrana and a gift were offered, Mawlana Hazar Imam, before departure, spoke once again with great emotion: “If earlier I was emotional, I am even more emotional now.”

He dedicated all the Nazrana to the Jamat of the Kenya jurisdiction, directing that the funds be used to support those unable to afford medical treatment and educational expenses. He asked the Jamat to cherish the memory of this Didar, reminding them that though the physical encounter is brief, the Imam is always with His Jamat, and the Jamat is always with Him. “I look for you. I care for you.”

As He departed, Mawlana Hazar Imam once again delighted the children, stopping to shake hands with many of them along the red carpet. One child offered Him a small drawing on a piece of paper. Mawlana Hazar Imam bent down to accept it personally, and held it with Him until His departure.

He also met each and every Jamati member who were unwell and bedridden, speaking with them and their families, and bestowing blessings upon them.”

As received:

Multi faith Mulaqat Nairobi Wednesday 28 Aug 2025

After that he had a private youth session in jamatkhanna. Then headed to Serena Hotel for a private session with multi faith families. So every Ismaili who has a non ismaili spouse was invited. We had about 410 so 200 couples. There were tables set out and we stood around them about 14 couples per table. Mowla came spoke briefly then went to every table and chatted for about 5 or 6 mins each

We could ask him whatever we wanted.

So our table someone asked about chatgpt etc and he said our lives are being controlled by something that we don't know who is controlling and what the consequences are so we need to be very careful. Sometimes we need to switch off and just slow down and take stock of life and really enjoy it with our family and friends

He said in their home his children have very limited screen time unless they are on a long flight . He said he believes children should be bloodied and muddied (his exact words).

At other tables he commented on some beards saying nice beard and he had something like that but had to trim as he was coming to Kenya.

Oh at one of the tables some ismaili decided to jump near him and said he wants to recite the azaan which he did very badly. So the table lead was trying to stop him and Mowla winked at her and said never mind let it be. People asked why don't we recite prayer 5 times. He said it is up to you.

Nairobi Darkhana was the historic setting for a unique occasion on 27 August 2025: Our beloved 50th Imam granted a didar to the Jamat of Kenya, Botswana, Burundi, Eswatini, Namibia, Rwanda, and South Africa.

Mawlana Hazar Imam conveyed guidance and blessings for the worldwide Ismaili community, and thanked volunteers for their efforts to organise the visit. He showered blessings on the Jamat and reminded us of his immense love and affection. Hazar Imam also granted a separate mulaqat to young members of the Jamat.

Mukhi Saheb of Nairobi Darkhana submitted bayʿa to the Imam on behalf of the Jamat and Shamira Dostmohamed, President of the Ismaili Council for Kenya, delivered a welcome address.

A gift was presented to Hazar Imam on behalf of the Jamat: a manuscript of the Qur’an from East Africa dating back to 1854 CE. Believed to be from Ethiopia, it reflects the rich heritage of East African Muslim communities, their devotion, artistry, and openness to the world.

In celebration of this very special occasion, the Jamat prepared an art installation entitled Bustan-e-Noor, or Garden of Light. The artwork is made up of flowers and leaves, each inspired by the national flowers and plants of the countries within the Kenya jurisdiction: Botswana’s Grapple Plant, Eswatini’s Edelweiss, Rwanda’s Robusta Coffee leaf, South Africa’s King protea, Namibia’s Welwitschia mirabilis, Burundi’s African protea, and Kenya’s Orchid.

The fruits and leaves were inscribed with hundreds of hand-written messages by members of the Jamat and multi-faith families of all ages, expressing their commitment to care for the environment and to serve the Imam and his Jamat.

Didar Visit Aug 25-27 2025

Post by mahebubchatur »

Ya Ali Madad,

Subject: A Remarkable Gesture of Grace from Mawlana Shah Rahim Hazar Imam - A powerful message from Hazar Imam to Leaders and Jamat

I wish to share with you a deeply moving moment of divine Love and grace witnessed by the Jamat in Nairobi during Mawlana Shah Rahim’s Didar

After Didar, While in and with the motorcade, Mawlana Shah Rahim noticed murids standing at a distance out side the gate .

On inquiring from Shamira Dostmohamed, President of the Ismaili Council for Kenya, who these people were, he was informed that they were murids from outside Kenya who were not eligible for entry to the Didar holy Hall

Hearing this, Mawlana Shah Rahim instructed the driver to stop the car

With immense humility, he stepped out of the car.

He first placed his hands together in the form of a prayer, then placed his hand on his heart, and then waved warmly to the murids.

He repeated this action & gesture with deep affection and then, before returning to the car, waved once more with love and grace.

This spontaneous action — a gesture of compassion, inclusivity, and divine love — profoundly moved all who were present.

For those murids denied entry to the Holy Didar, hall, this became an unforgettable experience & moment of spiritual connection and a blessing. Truly, a moment of shukar for the entire Jamat.

This is also a powerful message in action — to the Leaders and to the Jamat. The Imam would never agree to, or allow, murids who come for the highest form of worship and prayer to be denied or excluded.

Through this act, Mawlana Shah Rahim exemplified the timeless essence of the Imamat: divine grace, blessings, mercy, and guidance expressed even through body language and presence.

At a time when Hazar Imam continues to guide us with love and foresight, this moment in Nairobi reminds us once again of the enduring bond - Bayah between the Imam and the murids, that transcends all barriers, and exclusions. As Imam says no oceans or mountains can.

“YAM, why did Maula step out to wave at murids? Forwarded as received (not verified): The video shows Maula stepping out of the car to wave at murids. Mowlana Shah Rahim asked Shamira Dostmohamed, President of the Ismaili Council for Kenya, while en route with the motorcade, who the people standing far were. When she told him these were murids from outside Kenya who were not eligible for Didar, he flagged the driver to stop and came out of the car to wish them. Remarkable experience — shukar!!!”

2.

“He stepped out of his car to give Didar to those who had been discriminated against, making the point that he wanted them inside the Didar hall. In Paris he had said to let people come in. Some murids of the Imam entered, while others — who were murids of the institution — refused to join Didar.”

Deedar Reflections – Nairobi - August 27, 2025

* We were blessed with exceptionally intimate seating, from where we could clearly see the brilliant blue of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s (MHI's) eyes as we were in his direct line of vision — a truly unforgettable sight.
* As MHI walked around the hall, due to its small size, he was able to walk by all the areas and that added to the intimacy and emotions of the ceremony.
* We had the immense privilege of participating in tasbih in the presence of MHI, including the recitation of Salwat and Bibi Fatima’s tasbih (Allahu Akbar, Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah), in which MHI also joined. Witnessing him appear to recite alongside us was deeply moving.
* The Pledge of Allegiance was delivered by the President of the Council on behalf of the Jamat — a deeply emotional and heartfelt promise to MHI, recognizing him as our Murshid, Pir, and guide.
* A joyful moment came when President Saheba brought a smile to MHI’s face by inviting him to visit Kenya regularly — and to return soon, accompanied by his two sons. The Jamat responded with a powerful and unified “Ameen.”

* MHI’s Firmān began with him acknowledging the profound emotional significance of the moment. He asked for a minute of silence — a deeply spiritual pause to reflect, both for the Jamat and for the Imam.
* He bestowed his most generous blessings for health, safety, peace, the easing of difficulties (mushkil āsān), and gave special blessings for the souls of the departed (ruhanis).
* MHI spoke lovingly about Kenya’s deep personal and historical significance — remembering the legacy of his grandfather, Hazrat Sultan Muhammad Shah, who initiated many important programs in the country, and of his late father, Hazrat Shah Karim Shah, who had many cherished childhood memories here. For MHI himself, Kenya remains a place of lasting beauty and meaningful partnership.
* He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government of Kenya for their hospitality and for honoring him with the highest honors.
* He also expressed thanks to the government of Kenya who recognized Princess Zahra’s three decades of devoted service to both the Imamat and the nation by honoring her with an award too.

* MHI expressed that his sons were very upset not to be able to join his visit to Kenya, as they had to return to school but he hopes to return with them soon, Insha Allah.

* MHI encouraged the jamat to “get their steps in” which is an especially timely reminder to focus on our physical health and also mentioned that we must get regular physical examinations as we get older.

* MHI spent personal, heartwarming time with members of the Jamat — including the elderly on beds, children, youth, volunteers, and the Ismaili band.

* He greeted each of the patients on bed personally, and many were in shock to find MHI speaking to them and holding their hands at such close proximity. MHI greeted them warmly and shook countless hands, spreading joy and grace wherever he walked.

* One especially touching moment came when MHI approached the young members of the band as he exited the hall. As he neared them, one child shyly raised his hand to greet him — and then, as if on cue, all the other children did the same, lifting their hands in hopeful anticipation. It was a pure, spontaneous act of love and reverence that brought smiles to everyone around — a beautiful reminder of the deep connection even the youngest murids feel toward their Imam.

* All Mukhi-Kamadias of every Jamatkhana in the jurisdiction had the immense honor of offering mehmani in his presence — a moment of deep barakah and shared unity for the 7 countries present.

* The Nazrana offered to Hazar Imam was a beautiful Quran from the East Coast of Africa and MHI pledged to use the nazrana for the benefit of jamati members who cannot afford school fees and medical expenses.

* In his special message to the Jamat, MHI emphasized that our community has always adapted to the times — a powerful reassurance of his confidence in our ability to navigate the future with strength, resilience, and faith.

* He also highlighted the growing importance of Kenya and Africa as a whole, pointing to the continent’s rising population, its abundance of young people, and its natural resources.

* His words offered hope, pride, and a forward-looking vision — affirming that Africa’s future is bright, and that our Jamat has a significant role to play in its continued growth and success.

* After the main Deedar, MHI proceeded to the youth Deedar, where a deeply touching moment unfolded — he requested to be led in by the Youth Mukhi-Kamadia team, a profoundly symbolic gesture that honored and empowered the younger generation.

May this blessed Deedar be a new start to deeper spiritual enlightenment, inner peace, lasting happiness, and divine illumination in all our lives. May the light of MHI’s presence continue to guide our hearts and strengthen our unity, faith, family and purpose. As we all continue to bask in the blessings and emotions of this physical Deedar, may it open the doors to deeper bāṭinī and rūḥānī Deedar — a timeless connection with the Imam that transcends the physical and illuminates the soul.

Deedar Mubarak to the entire Jamat and love to you all on this special auspicious day!

2025, August 27: Youth

Love and care for spiritual children, look after the elderly, and actively engage them in society.

Emphasize education and keep reading to stay updated with our rapidly developing world.

Stay connected with the Jamal family and community, even if you move away.

Reduce screen time, but also become well-versed in technology.

Jobs may not exist in their current form; the world will need people who can work with their hands.

Your family name is a brand—maintain it. Pursue your interests while keeping the values of our faith in mind.

Remember AKDN institutions in Kenya after your education and help improve them. They will hire based on meritocracy - I hope!

Hon. Aden Duale, EGH
@HonAdenDuale
Saw off His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after his three-day official visit to Kenya, undertaken at the invitation of H.E. President @WilliamsRuto

On his first visit since assuming leadership in February, the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims met President Ruto at State House Nairobi for talks on strategic partnerships.

The President reaffirmed Kenya's strong ties with the Aga Khan Development Network, which, under the vision of Prince Rahim's father, has touched the lives of millions of Kenyans through investments in healthcare, education, banking, insurance and real estate.

I was joined by Amin Mawji, the Diplomatic Representative for the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Kenya, President and Vice Chancellor of the Aga Khan University (AKU), Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin among other dignitaries.
