The Leadership of the Ismaili community did not inform members of the community or invite those who wish to come at the venue and make arrangements for them to wait outside. Pope Francis meets Prince Rahim Aga Khan in Lisbon 2023-08-04

Pope Francis holds series of interreligious encounters in Lisbon

Pope Francis engages in a series of interreligious and ecumenical encounters in Lisbon, and calls on everyone to promote fraternity and care for the spiritual well-being of young people.

By Devin Watkins

As Pope Francis returned to the Apostolic Nunciature ahead of lunch on Friday, he held a series of brief meetings with three separate delegations, according to the Holy See Press Office.

The Pope met first with a delegation from the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID), accompanied by Cardinal Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot, prefect of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue.

“In greeting the delegation,” said the Press Office statement, “the Pope expressed his gratitude for the visit and addressed a few words to those present on the value of fraternity and dialogue and the danger of monologue and proselytizing.”

The King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue—or KAICIID, for short—is based in Lisbon.

It was opened in 2012 by Saudi Arabia, Austria, and Spain, following Pope Benedict XVI’s meeting in 2007 with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah. The KAICIID’s website says the Holy See is a “Founding Observer to the Centre.”

Pope Francis then held a private audience with Rahim Aga Khan, son of the leader of the Ismaili community, which has its center in Lisbon.

Ecumenism and care for young people

In a separate meeting, the Pope received a group of religious men and women and people of different faiths and Christian denominations involved in the ecumenical and interreligious efforts of the Church in Portugal.

Pope Francis thanked those present for their efforts to live in fraternity and engage in dialogue.

He also urged them “to take care of young people, who ‘are cheerful, but not superficial,’ and risk being ‘anesthetized’ by the world around them.

In his final meeting before having lunch with young people, Pope Francis met briefly with Henrique Cymerman Benarroch, an Israeli journalist who works as a correspondent in the Middle East.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan at Paris Peace Forum 2023

Post by Admin »

https://the.ismaili/global/news/imamat- ... eace-forum

2023, November 10: Prince Rahim attended the Paris Peace Forum at Palais Brongniart yesterday, and participated alongside world leaders and change makers to help build a more peaceful world.

Image

For its 6th edition, the Paris Peace Forum gathered some of the most important actors in global governance, to seek coordinated responses to the most urgent challenges of our time. In a world of increasing rivalry, delegates explored ways to seek common ground to care for our planet, secure our digital spaces, and create more equality and peace for all.

The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) has served as a Founding Partner of the Paris Peace Forum since its inception in 2018, and this year became a strategic partner alongside the European Commission, Microsoft, and the Open Society Foundations.

This reflects the Ismaili Imamat’s longstanding and close relationship with the French Republic, founded on the shared values of peace, human development, and pluralism. The Forum’s emphasis on partnership between governments, civil society and the private sector resonate strongly with AKDN’s decades-long approach to development.

The Forum’s themes this year focus on protecting the planet, ensuring digital safety, addressing inequality, and crafting sustainable peace; which all align with the work of the AKDN and Jamati institutions to help improve the quality of life worldwide.

Ismaili CIVIC volunteers from the French jurisdiction took part in this year’s event, welcoming guests, coordinating roundtable discussions, accompanying international delegations, and organising ancillary activities.

Prince Rahim today met with His Excellency Sadyr Japarov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, at the Ala Archa State Residence in Bishkek. Prince Rahim’s official visit to the country comes at the invitation of the President.

The two leaders discussed the Aga Khan Development Network’s long-standing presence in the Kyrgyz Republic and their shared desire to deepen cooperation in climate change mitigation and adaptation, the enhancement of education and economic opportunity, and the safeguarding of mountain areas, including their ecosystems, cultural heritage, habitat, and overall quality of life.

President Japarov conveyed his gratitude for the projects that the AKDN has implemented in Kyrgyzstan: “We highly appreciate the work of the AKDN, and the assistance provided in addressing socio-economic issues and improving the living conditions of vulnerable populations in the mountain areas of the country. Taking into account the international reputation of your institution, and its activities in developing mountain areas, I invite the AKDN to join our efforts in combating the negative effects of climate change, biodiversity conservation, and disaster prevention in mountain areas, and to implement the activities of the Global Plan of Action.”

Prince Rahim said: “I am delighted to be back in the Kyrgyz Republic following my last visit in 2016. This is an important moment to reinforce our long-standing friendship. We look forward to deeper cooperation towards our shared goal of a peaceful and prosperous future for this beautiful country.”

For more than two decades, AKDN agencies have been active in the Kyrgyz Republic to help improve the quality of life. An Agreement of Cooperation, ratified by parliament in 2001, enables joint efforts to advance sustainable and inclusive human development. The AKDN has since established institutions and programmes in education, economic development, rural support, culture, health, and habitat.

AKDN works in all seven provinces of the country and in response to locally identified development priorities. In education, an Aga Khan School in Osh, established in 2002, and the University of Central Asia, established in 2000, offer high quality education benefiting tens of thousands of students.

Since 2007, the Aga Khan Foundation has pioneered support to rural economies, early childhood education, e-health, and youth skills development. Its flagship education programme, Schools2030, will host a Global Forum in Bishkek in June 2024.

In culture, the Aga Khan Music Programme works to revitalise national musical traditions in collaboration with more than 40 educational institutions in the country.

The Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank (KICB), Jubilee Kyrgyzstan Insurance Company, and Accelerate Prosperity help drive economic growth, including in remote and underserved areas. KICB serves more than 400,000 clients through 54 branches across the country.

Kyrgyz President Japarov and Prince Rahim Aga Khan discuss deepening collaboration with AKDN

President Sadyr Japarov of the Kyrgyz Republic hosted Prince Rahim Aga Khan on March 1, in a meeting aimed at bolstering cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), the presidential press service reported. The discussions primarily revolved around avenues of collaboration in education, ecology, and the green economy, underscoring the longstanding partnership between the two entities.

Acknowledging Prince Aga Khan IV's considerable contributions to fostering ties between Kyrgyzstan and the AKDN, President Japarov expressed gratitude for the network's role in enhancing the lives of vulnerable populations in Kyrgyzstan's mountainous regions. He also extended appreciation to the ethnic Kyrgyz residing in the Greater and Lesser Pamirs of Afghanistan for their supportive endeavors.

Of particular emphasis was the University of Central Asia in Naryn, lauded by President Japarov for its pivotal role in providing quality education not only to Kyrgyz youth but also to students across Central Asia and Afghanistan.

President Japarov underscored the urgency of collaboration in environmental conservation, especially in the face of climate change, and invited the AKDN to join efforts in mitigating its adverse effects while fostering sustainable development in mountainous regions.

In response, Prince Rahim Aga Khan expressed gratitude for the warm reception and fruitful discussions, highlighting the mutual successes achieved since the AKDN's inception in Kyrgyzstan in 2001. He stressed the importance of deepening cooperation to align with Kyrgyzstan's national priorities and offered continued support in this regard. Prince Aga Khan also commended Kyrgyzstan's strides in economic and foreign policy matters and acknowledged the government's proactive stance on climate change and environmental preservation.

Both parties expressed confidence in the continued productive partnership between Kyrgyzstan and the AKDN, aimed at enhancing citizens' well-being and advancing the nation's development goals.

For over two decades, AKDN agencies have been actively engaged in Kyrgyzstan, striving to elevate the quality of life across various sectors. An Agreement of Cooperation, ratified in 2001, has facilitated collaborative efforts in sustainable human development, leading to the establishment of institutions and programs spanning education, economic development, rural support, culture, health, and habitat conservation.

AKDN's footprint extends across all seven provinces of Kyrgyzstan, addressing locally identified development needs. Initiatives include the Aga Khan School in Osh, founded in 2002, and the University of Central Asia, established in 2000, both contributing significantly to education accessibility and quality in the region.

The Aga Khan Foundation, since 2007, has spearheaded initiatives supporting rural economies, early childhood education, e-health, and youth skill development, with its flagship program, Schools2030, set to host a Global Forum in Bishkek in June 2024. In cultural preservation, the Aga Khan Music Programme collaborates with over 40 educational institutions to revitalize national musical traditions.

Driving economic growth, the Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank (KICB), Jubilee Kyrgyzstan Insurance Company, and Accelerate Prosperity have been instrumental, particularly in remote and underserved areas, serving over 400,000 clients through 54 branches nationwide.
