Koh-e-Noor

Post by swamidada »

The British acquired the Koh-i-Noor diamond in 1849 from the 11-year-old Maharaja Duleep Singh of the Sikh Empire. The handover was formalized through the Treaty of Lahore ( under threat) following the British annexation of the Punjab, requiring the diamond to be surrendered directly to Queen Victoria.
Before this, the diamond was held by Sikh ruler Ranjit Singh (who took it from Shah Shojāʿ of Afghanistan), Afghan rulers, Persian rulers (Nader Shah), and the Mughal Emperors. The origin of kohinoor is Golconda Kollur mines in India.
