HUNZA PIPE BAND
15 pairs of our Jamati Band began their celebration walk from Altit early in the morning, crossing all 60 JKs along the way before reaching Aliabad by late evening. Covering this entire journey on foot — while continuously playing — was truly a remarkable display of passion, unity, and spirit.

ISLAMABAD: Spiritual leader of the Ismaili Shai Muslim community and its 50th Imam, Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday on his first official six-day visit, according to officials.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan met President Asif Ali Zardari at the President’s House in Islamabad on Wednesday, officials said.
He is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of the government and will remain in the country from May 20 to May 26.
During his visit, he is expected to travel to multiple areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, attend public gatherings and participate in ceremonies.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V formally assumed the role of the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community on February 11, 2025, following the death of his father and predecessor, Imam Shah Karim al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, who passed away on February 4, 2025.
Authorities have mobilised federal and regional resources for the visit and said it will be accorded state guest status.
Officials said large gatherings are expected in areas including Passu Cones in Hunza, Gilgit city, Gahkuch Bala, Taus Yasin and Ishkoman. The administration is considering holding multiple sessions at some venues to manage crowd sizes, officials said.
For security and logistics, the federal government has also been requested to provide a bulletproof vehicle for the visiting dignitary.
Authorities have recommended opening the Babusar Road as an alternative route and placing the National Highway Authority on alert at sensitive points. Police and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) have been assigned special responsibilities for road maintenance, traffic management and security along the Karakoram Highway from Nasirabad Bridge to Sost Dry Port.
Officials said instructions have also been issued to ensure uninterrupted power supply in Upper Hunza and adjoining areas during the visit. Additional transport arrangements are being made for visitors, along with adjustments in travel timings to facilitate movement across the region.

Historic Homecoming of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan to Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral
He is expected to engage with country’s leadership, including President Zardari, PM Shehbaz, and Field Marshal Munir
Shaukat Ali Khan | May 19, 2026
The forthcoming visit of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan, as the 50th Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, marks a historic and emotional moment for Pakistan, particularly for the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. Scheduled between May 20 to 26, this first official visit carries profound spiritual, cultural, and national significance, bringing together faith, heritage, leadership, and unity.

During his time in Pakistan, His Highness is expected to engage with the country’s highest leadership, including the president, the prime minister, and the field marshal. These meetings reflect the longstanding and constructive relationship between the Ismaili Imamat and the state of Pakistan, one rooted in shared commitments to development, pluralism, education, and human progress.
Beyond Islamabad, however, it is in the majestic northern regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral where the emotional resonance of this visit will be most deeply felt. The people of these areas home to a vibrant and devoted Ismaili Jamat are awaiting this historic Deedar with immense anticipation and devotion. In Ismaili tradition, a gathering with their spiritual leader is known as Deedar, a moment of profound spiritual connection, reflection, and renewal.
Across Passu, Hunza, Gilgit, Gahkuch, and Taus, as well as in multiple locations in Chitral, preparations have reached an extraordinary scale. Entire valleys are being transformed into expressions of love and loyalty. Mountainsides are adorned with welcome messages, symbolic of the deep reverence held for their Imam. Beautifully constructed welcome gates, decorated with messages of gratitude, unity, and allegiance, stand as powerful testaments to the community’s enduring bond with its spiritual leadership.
What stands out most remarkably is the spirit of unity and harmony that defines these regions. Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral have long been examples of peaceful coexistence among diverse religious and cultural communities. Leaders and representatives of sister communities have warmly extended their support and participation in welcoming His Highness, demonstrating an extraordinary model of interfaith harmony and mutual respect. In a world often marked by division, this unity offers a powerful narrative of shared values and collective identity.
This visit also reminds the legacy of His Late Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan, whose landmark visit to the region between October 20 to 26, 1960, left a permanent mark on its trajectory. Over the decades since, the region has witnessed remarkable transformation. From education to healthcare, infrastructure to community development, the contributions of the Aga Khan Development Network have enabled unprecedented progress.
Today, Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral boast some of the highest literacy rates and most progressive social indicators in comparable mountain regions, an achievement widely attributed to this visionary leadership.
As a direct descendant of Hazrat Ali (AS), the arrival of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan carries both spiritual and historical resonance. For the people of these mountainous regions, it is not only a visit, but also a moment of deep connection, affirmation of identity, and renewal of faith.
As the days draw closer, and strong sense of excitement and devotion continues to build. Families, communities, and generations are preparing to come together in large gatherings, united in their desire to welcome their Imam with dignity, pride, and heartfelt warmth.
“Deedar Mubarak” to the Ismaili community of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. This is not only a celebration of faith, but a reaffirmation of unity, progress, and the persistent relationship between a people and their spiritual guide.

This is the effect of your love on me,
I am not aware of myself, nor am I worried about death.
This is the effect of your love on me. 1
This heart is now immersed in the prostration of your memory,
I have no concern for pain or sorrow.
This is the effect of your love on me. 2
I am now saturated with your blessings,
now every sorrow is like a sweet journey.
This is the effect of your love on me. 3
Now I cannot be patient with you in this separation,
every breath I take now has the effect of seeing you.
This is the effect of your love on me. 4
Your love has made me crazy,
now wherever I look, only you are there.
This is the effect of your love on me. 5
This soul of mine is drenched in the rain of your mercy,
now only you are present in every prayer.
This is the effect of your love on me. 6
Having come to your threshold, my heart feels such peace,
now every desire of the world is ineffective,
this is the effect of your love on me.

Sharing as received
Sharing this based on a conversation I had with a local:
There is something deeply moving about what is happening in the northern areas of Pakistan at this moment. My family is preparing for Deedar in the Passu region, where a grand Darbar is being held. Jamat from many small villages are journeying together toward the nearby village where the Deedargah and Darbar Pandal have been lovingly prepared. Families have already begun leaving a day earlier so they may arrive in time for this blessed occasion. My mother shared that two or three families are being accommodated together in the homes of local Ismaili Jamati members. The travelling Jamat has been informed that the host Jamat will lovingly take care of food and accommodation, while requesting everyone to carry some perishable items and to show special care and respect to elders and children.
The entire atmosphere, from the preparations to the Deedargah itself, feels like a glimpse of Jannah on earth. Jamatkhanas have decorated beautiful entrance gates representing their Jamats, adorned with messages from qasidas and Qur'anic ayas. Every heart seems to be beating with one emotion, one anticipation, one love.
But Deedar in the northern areas of Pakistan is not just a Deedar. It is unique in its own sense, not only for the Ismaili Jamat but also for many sister communities around them. There is a happiness that spreads beyond boundaries. Volunteers step forward without hesitation, standing in rain and cold, picking up rocks one by one, clearing landslides and roads so murids can safely reach the Deedargah. People from other communities who have benefited from the Imam's institutions also feel a sense of joy and pride because they too see happiness arriving in their region.
There is something incredibly beautiful and humbling about the devotion of the northern Jamat. Their love carries the memory of hardships, struggles, sorrows and sacrifices of generations before them. Remembering their departed ruhani family members who are no longer present to witness this blessed occasion, many shed tears as they await the arrival of Noor. Their concern is often not whether they will touch the Imam or wave at the Imam. Their greatest desire is simply to preserve and carry their love and devotion deeply in their hearts. There is something in that sincerity from which all of us can learn.
I can only wish I were there physically, but my heart is at peace knowing that my mother will receive the Deedar of the Imam of the Time. She has been sending voice messages filled with emotion and deep sentiments, and hearing them touches the heart in ways words cannot describe.
The northern Jamat flourished under Mawlana Shah Karim's Noorani chhatrchhaya, under his unconditional love, care and guidance. That is a blessing we can never forget for as long as we breathe. Yet the continuity of Imamat in Imam-e-Zaman remains an eternal mercy and a living grace. His karam and nawazish upon us are beyond measure. Even if we were given many lifetimes, perhaps even then we would never be able to fully express our shukrana.
