Traffic and congestion are expected near the venue. Allow additional travel time.

TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS

The following transportation options are available to assist the Jamat in travelling safely and efficiently to the Didar venue. Please review the options below to select the one that best meets your needs.

Drive and Park

Driving and parking is the recommended transportation option for most attendees. More than 5,000 parking stalls have been identified throughout downtown Vancouver, including locations offering discounted Didar event parking rates.

Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Plan ahead, arrive early, and allow additional time for parking and walking to the venue. Carpooling is encouraged where possible.

Traffic delays are expected. Curbside access for general drop-off near the venue will be limited. Priority will be given to seniors and those displaying a valid government-issued accessible parking placard at the drop-off zone.

Mulaqat Express

The Mulaqat Express is a ticketed shuttle service designed for seniors and any Jamati member who would benefit from transportation assistance or a more supported arrival experience.

HOW IT WORKS

Board at your designated departure location.
Travel to the Lounge, where you complete security screening and may enjoy light refreshments indoors.
Board the Mulaqat Express shuttle for direct transportation to the Didar Hall ‚no additional security screening is required on arrival.
After the Didar, board any available Mulaqat Express shuttle to return to the Lounge, then transfer to a shuttle serving your original departure location.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Do not park at or arrange drop-off at the Lounge.
Travel light if possible. Personal belongings cannot be stored or left at the Lounge.
Walking canes may be brought on board.
Walkers and strollers will be stored underneath the shuttle and should be clearly labelled with your name and phone number.
Travellers must be able to safely board and disembark by climbing approximately three to four steps. Those who cannot should use the Wheelchair-Accessible Taxi Transportation option.
Wheelchair porter assistance is available at the Didar venue only, not at departure locations, parking lots, or the Lounge.

Public Transit

As the Didar takes place early Sunday morning, some transit services begin operating later and may not allow you to arrive when the doors open at 6:00 a.m. Jamati members are asked to arrive no later than 7:30 a.m.

Plan your journey in advance using the TransLink Trip Planner, and review schedules, maps, and service alerts before travelling. The Canada Line and Expo Line have early Sunday services available.

Taxi, Ride-Share & Drop-Off

Taxi, ride-share (Uber, Lyft), and private vehicle drop-off are available for those who prefer not to drive and park or use the Mulaqat Express, or do not require Wheelchair-Accessible Transportation services.

Traffic delays are expected and curbside access near the venue will be very limited. Priority access will be given to designated accessibility and medical transportation services. Please follow directions from volunteers, venue staff, and traffic-control personnel.

Wheelchair-Accessible Taxi Transportation

Wheelchair-accessible taxi service is available for wheelchair users who do not have access to an accessible transportation option or are unable to safely board the Mulaqat Express shuttle.

Return transportation: Wheelchair-accessible taxis will be available from the designated pick-up area after the Didar, on a first-come, first-served basis. You do not need to pre-book your return trip and are not required to use the same taxi company.

New Aga Khan making first official visit to Vancouver

There are approximately 20,000 Ismaili community members in B.C., and about 16,000 live in the Lower Mainland

His Highness, the Aga Khan, imam to the world’s 20-million strong jamaat, or Ismaili community, will make his first official visit to Vancouver this weekend.

“For the community, this is a visit of deep spiritual significance,” said Taleeb Noormohamed, MP for Vancouver Granville. “It’s the first time that many members of the community will be meeting the new imam.”

Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini (Aga Khan V) became the 50th hereditary imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims following the death of his father, his Late Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan, a global philanthropist and spiritual leader who died on Feb. 4, 2025, age 88.

Ismaili community member and volunteer Zahra Premji said those in the Ismaili community have been celebrating, collaborating and working together in anticipation since the announcement last month that their spiritual father would be coming to Vancouver.

“It’s like welcoming your father to your home,” said Premji. “My grandmother said, ‘You wait. When you see him, you will feel that instant connection.’

“We feel that connection already, but we will be getting that face-to-face interaction with no cellphone, no laptop, just an opportunity to be together and connect in a peaceful setting. I don’t even know how to explain it. This is reaffirming our connection to our community.”

During his visit, the Aga Khan will meet with government officials to commemorate several community infrastructure projects across B.C., including investments in affordable housing, health and wellness, education, recreation, and community spaces. On July 26, the Aga Khan will attend a Didar, a gathering to meet his followers, at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

Noormohamed said that while the Aga Khan is here, an agreement with the government of Canada will be signed related to housing, and there will be work with the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development, for which details will be announced at a later date.

Noormohamed said the Ismaili community around the world is connected by a shared value and ethics system, and the imam’s role is to provide guidance on matters of faith so they can continue to live by their ethics in a changing world.

According to the Ismaili Council of Canada, the Aga Khan is particularly committed to the Aga Khan Development Network’s work to protect the environment and mitigate the effects of climate change. He also serves as chairman of its Environment and Climate Committee.

The imam’s commitment to environmental causes is dear to Premji’s heart. “We live in this beautiful province filled with forests and greenery. It’s beautiful to see an imam that is so in touch with what is happening right now. We are really lucky that we have guidance and support in that.”

Noormohamed called the visit an opportunity for “an ongoing affirmation of the role that Canada can play in the world, and the role the community can play in helping Canada achieve its goals.”

“The Ismaili community is a powerhouse” when it comes to volunteering, charity work, philanthropy, as well as leadership in business, science and medicine, said Noormohamed. “The guidance from our previous imam was to make Canada our home, and to be active, involved citizens of this country and this community. We’ve taken that to heart.”

The ethos of the Ismaili community is about giving back, whether it is through the gift of time, wealth, or knowledge. “When you achieve success, you don’t measure it by what you have achieved, but by what you have helped others achieve,” said Noormohamed. “These are the things that drive our community.”

The Aga Khan Development Network is an international philanthropic foundation with nearly 100,000 employees worldwide that funds social, economic, and cultural development programs, largely in Asia and Africa.

There are approximately 20,000 Ismaili community members in B.C., and about 16,000 live in the Lower Mainland.

According to writer and publisher Ali Lakhani, the author of Faith and Ethics: The Vision of the Ismaili Imamat, Shia Ismaili Muslims are unique as centuries-long followers of a living, hereditary imam, whom they believe to be directly descended from the Prophet Muhammad. The community embraces pluralism, is ethnically diverse, and actively committed to establishing schools, learning and religious centres, hospitals and housing in the countries in which they settle.

The first wave of Ismaili immigrants to Canada came in 1972, after Idi Amin expelled tens of thousands of immigrants of Asian origin from Uganda. Ismaili community members established social, cultural and religious centres across Canada, including the Ismaili Centre in Vancouver, which was opened by prime minister Brian Mulroney in 1985.

We live in tur­bu­lent times, troubled by eco­nomic uncer­tainty and threatened by cur­rents of tech­no­lo­gical change. In moments of vul­ner­ab­il­ity, the global impulse is to pull inward, but shared chal­lenges demand co-oper­a­tion.

The world needs more Canada, but what does this look like? The Ismaili Imamat's part­ner­ship with Alberta, form­al­ized in 2012, is little known to most Cana­dians but is a vibrant example of how the best of Canada can be brought to bear on the world stage.

I have had the priv­ilege of work­ing along­side the Ismaili com­munity in sev­eral capa­cit­ies. Through the lead­er­ship of His High­ness the Aga Khan (vis­it­ing Alberta and B.C. this week), and his late father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, a com­mon thread weaves throughout the com­munity and its insti­tu­tions.

The Aga Khan holds the office of Imamat, a hered­it­ary office rep­res­en­ted by the suc­ces­sion of Imams, who are dir­ect des­cend­ants of the Prophet Muhammad. The Ismaili Imamat's man­date is to guide the inter­pret­a­tion and prac­tise of the faith and improve the qual­ity of life of its fol­low­ers and the com­munit­ies in which they live.

These are not sep­ar­ate endeav­ours but the res­ult of an enlightened per­spect­ive in which faith and world inter­act with vigour and pur­pose. It is a con­tem­por­ary inter­pret­a­tion of Islam, char­ac­ter­ized by an eth­ical ori­ent­a­tion, a sense of stew­ard­ship, and respons­ib­il­ity to both human­ity and nature.

These sens­ib­il­it­ies inform the Ismaili Imamat's part­ner­ship in Canada, the effect of which is most dis­cern­ible in ter­tiary edu­ca­tion. Canada's uni­versit­ies have always done more than just edu­cate — they ori­ent us, steer­ing the best of our minds toward the bet­ter­ment of human­ity.

The insti­tu­tions of the Aga Khan Devel­op­ment Net­work (AKDN) are a vital global bridge through which this is accom­plished. As a mem­ber of the Aga Khan Uni­versity's (AKU) board of trust­ees, I am still amazed by the scale of AKU's global reach — six cam­puses across three con­tin­ents.

Now in its fifth dec­ade, the uni­versity is act­ive in East Africa, Pakistan and the United King­dom. The Uni­versity of Cal­gary's part­ner­ship with AKU is one example of how Cana­dian expert­ise is lever­aged across bor­ders, through col­lab­or­a­tion with the Uni­versity of Cal­gary's fac­ulty of nurs­ing's work in child and mater­nal health, the Cum­ming School of Medi­cine's research in car­diac sci­ences, and with the Werklund School in edu­ca­tion and social devel­op­ment.

This exchange brings Cana­dian expert­ise to the world and equips fac­ulty and stu­dents with glob­ally rel­ev­ant know­ledge.

It is a part­ner­ship built on a shared com­mit­ment to plur­al­ism, evid­enced by the Uni­versity of Cal­gary's Plur­al­ism Ini­ti­at­ive, which stems from col­lab­or­a­tion between the Aga Khan Uni­versity and the Global Centre for Plur­al­ism. The cer­ti­fic­ate in plur­al­ism and global cit­izen­ship, and the estab­lish­ment of a Canada Research Chair in plur­al­ism, enable stu­dents, fac­ulty and aspir­ing pro­fes­sion­als to bet­ter respond to the forces of polar­iz­a­tion, dis­con­nec­tion and mis­trust at the indi­vidual and insti­tu­tional level.

At the fed­eral level, this part­ner­ship has found renewed expres­sion in a joint declar­a­tion made between Prime Min­is­ter Mark Car­ney and His High­ness the Aga Khan. It is under­pinned by mutual interest, shared val­ues and an align­ment of oppor­tun­ity.

The Ismaili Imamat will advance efforts in edu­ca­tion and skills devel­op­ment, pre­par­ing a work­force of the future that util­izes Cana­dian innov­a­tion in cli­mate action and health. Canada will draw on the Ismaili com­munity's exper­i­ence in devel­op­ing a unique multi-gen­er­a­tional hous­ing model to invest in projects. The AKDN's exper­i­ence in infra­struc­ture, energy and agri­cul­ture, informed by its long-stand­ing pres­ence in sub-Saha­ran Africa and Asia, will con­trib­ute to Canada's eco­nomic invest­ment and diver­si­fic­a­tion efforts abroad.

It is a part­ner­ship which, in its dynam­ism and scope, is without pre­ced­ent.

The world does need more Canada, and part­ner­ships like this bring Canada to the world.

About 250 Ismaili Murids welcomed them as the Imam opene the car's window to bless them. At a the stop at end of Palmer street, Prince Sinan gave a thumb-up to a lady who then showered the car with rose petals. Mubarak to all. Tonight the Alberta government will host a diner at Mcdougall Center

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Calgary, Alberta, earlier today for the second part of his visit to Canada.

Hazar Imam, accompanied by Prince Irfan and Prince Sinan, was welcomed at the airport by Government representatives including The Honourable Shafqat Ali, President of the Treasury Board, Government of Canada, and The Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, along with a delegation of Jamati leaders.

Mayor of Calgary Jeromy Farkas presented Hazar Imam and the two princes with the city’s iconic white hats — a Calgary tradition dating to the 1950s — as a gesture of welcome and friendship.

“The white hat is one of the most recognizable symbols of our city,” said Mayor Farkas. “It stands for generosity, integrity, and the belief that every person deserves to feel welcome and to belong.”

He also paid tribute to Hazar Imam’s leadership: “Your commitment to pluralism, education, service, and human dignity,” he said, “has left a lasting mark around the world, including right here in Calgary through the remarkable contributions of our beloved Ismaili community.”

With roots in the region stretching back more than five decades, the Ismaili community across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba has built a lasting presence. Among the most visible expressions are Generations Calgary — the first development of its kind in Canada — and the Aga Khan Garden, a stunning feat of Islamic landscape architecture that stands as the northernmost of its kind in the world, located at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden.

Aga Khan starts his first official visit to Calgary

More than 20,000 people will attend private gatherings in Calgary on Friday with the Aga Khan, who arrived here Thursday afternoon as part of his first official visit to Western Canada.

The visit by His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V reflects a long-standing partnership between Canada and the Ismaili Imamat, as well as shared values and a common commitment to a more prosperous, just and inclusive world, organizers of the visit said in a news release on Thursday.

Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini became the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims following the death of his father, his Late Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan, a global philanthropist and spiritual leader who died Feb. 4, 2025, at age 88.

The Ismaili Imamat is the office of hereditary leadership held by successive Imams who are direct descendants of the Prophet Muhammad through his son-in-law, the first Shia Imam, Hazrat Ali.

“The visit will include meetings with government officials, participation in significant community milestones and private gatherings with members of the Ismaili community,” the news release noted. “During these gatherings, members of the community will have the opportunity to be in the presence of their Imam and receive guidance related to the practise of their faith, and to improving the quality of life for their families and the societies in which they live.”

Following his Calgary visit, the Aga Khan will head to Vancouver for additional gatherings.

“For the community, this is a visit of deep spiritual significance,” said Taleeb Noormohamed, MP for Vancouver Granville. “It’s the first time that many members of the community will be meeting the new Imam.”

Noormohamed said that while the Aga Khan is there, an agreement with the federal government will be signed related to housing, and there will be work with the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development, for which details will be announced at a later date.

He noted that the Ismaili community around the world is connected by a shared value and ethics system, and the Imam’s role is to provide guidance on matters of faith so they can continue to live by their ethics in a changing world.

According to the Ismaili Council of Canada, the Aga Khan is particularly committed to the Aga Khan Development Network’s work to protect the environment and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The Aga Khan Development Network is an international philanthropic foundation with nearly 100,000 employees worldwide that funds social, economic and cultural development programs, largely in Asia and Africa.

Earlier today Mawlana Hazar Imam met with the Premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith, and several other senior government representatives.

Hazar Imam and Premier Smith discussed areas of common interest and opportunities for future collaboration, including healthcare, housing, education, and workforce development.

The meeting builds upon the Agreement of Cooperation between the Province of Alberta and the Ismaili Imamat signed in 2012. Generations Calgary and the Aga Khan Garden located at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden are tangible examples of the cooperation between the two parties.

The conversation was followed by an opportunity to meet with several provincial ministers and representatives of the Jamat.

2026, July 24: Just finished morning didar. Mowla came with his two boys Prince Irfan and Prince Sinan. Mowla said life is too short so spend time with your parents and grandparents because you won't get that time again and then he got emotional and waited for a few seconds before speaking again. Mowla was happy and the two boys were very disciplined. Mowla said I bless you and your families wherever they are in the world.

Both princes and Hazer Imam were very happy. Very good firman. Covered lots of issues. Since there was no separate students mulaqat, Mowla did a special firman for students and their parents and wanted both students and their parents to listen to it together.
The Jamat was in cloud nine.

2026, July 24: Reflections on Today's Deedar in Calgary (Morning) :

Today's Deedar in Calgary was an experience that is difficult to capture in words. From the very beginning of the Intezaar program, there was a unique sense of peace in the air. Even the children, who would normally be active and restless, were remarkably calm and quiet, creating an atmosphere of serenity and anticipation.

At approximately 8:45 AM, Mawla arrived at the Deedargah accompanied by Prince Irfan and Prince Sinan. As Mawla entered, he warmly greeted the Jamat by waving and saying "Hi" and "Khanavadan." He then walked around the Deedargah while the Jamat lovingly recited Salwat.

In previous Deedars, I had often found myself overwhelmed with emotion and tears. This time, however, my experience was different. Instead of crying, I felt an overwhelming sense of contentment and inner peace. While many murids around me had tears in their eyes out of deep love and devotion, I experienced a quiet tranquility that filled my heart.

Mawla then proceeded to the stage with both Princes. Although some young children were crying, the overall atmosphere remained extraordinarily peaceful—so much so that words fail to adequately describe it.

Mukhi Sahib of Calgary Headquarters Jamatkhana then sought permission for the recitation of the Holy Qur'an. Qari Reffat came to the stage and beautifully recited verses from Surah An-Nisa, beginning with "Ya ayyuhan-nas qad ja'akum..."

Following the recitation, Qasidas, Ginans, and Dhikr-Tasbih, Mawla delivered his Farman. He began by mentioning that just two weeks earlier he had been in Berlin. After a brief pause, he smiled and said that he was very happy to have his two boys with him today.

Mawla first spoke about Tawhid, the Oneness of Allah. He reminded the Jamat of the chain of Prophets beginning with Prophet Adam, followed by Prophet Noah, Prophet Moses, Prophet Jesus, and finally Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family). He then explained that the era of Imamat began with Hazrat Ali (A.S.), and that the Imams are Allah's mercy for humanity. The same Divine Noor continues uninterrupted from one Imam to the next and is present today in our 50th Imam.

Mawla then spoke about Bayah. He said that he accepts the Bayah of everyone who has given Bayah to him, and that he accepts it through the Mukhis and Kamadias. He emphasized that Bayah must always be given with love and free will; otherwise, it has no true meaning.

He reminded us that life in this world is a journey, while the soul is eternal. Speaking about children, Mawla encouraged parents to send them to daycare, preschool, or kindergarten, emphasizing that the early years are extremely important because children develop so rapidly during that stage of life.

Mawla also reminded the Jamat to remain grateful to Allah for all that He has granted us. He said that life unfolds as it is meant to, and that our children will ultimately make their own choices, which we cannot control. Instead, we should raise them with love. He encouraged parents to read lovingly to their children, explaining that children learn not only the words but also the emotions with which they are spoken. Mawla also beautifully shared that he accepts his own children exactly as they are.

Towards the conclusion of the Farman, Mawla said that he would give the Jamat a Tasbih as a reminder that the soul is eternal. He also graciously bestowed blessings upon the students and accepted the Jamatkhana mehmanis.

Today's Deedar left me with a profound feeling of peace, gratitude, and reassurance. Rather than overwhelming emotion, I experienced a quiet contentment that reminded me that Mawla's presence brings calmness to the heart. It was a blessed morning filled with spiritual guidance, love, and hope that will remain in my memory for years to come.

2026, July 24: My Calgary Deedar Experience

The Calgary Deedar was a truly special experience that I will never forget.

At first, I had a hard time believing in Mawlana Shah Rahim because I had become so used to Mawlana Shah Karim being our Imam. It was difficult for me to accept this change. But after today, my heart has completely changed. I now believe in Mawlana Shah Rahim with all my heart. Today was one of the most meaningful and unforgettable experiences of my life, and I have never felt prouder to be an Ismaili.

From the moment we arrived at the BMO Centre, we were welcomed by smiling volunteers at the entrance. They scanned our wristbands and guided us inside. I have never seen so many volunteers in one place before. Everywhere we looked, there were volunteers greeting, directing, and helping everyone. It truly felt like the entire community had come together to serve.

Since the first Calgary session had already ended, we were directed upstairs to a waiting hall where refreshments were provided, including nankatai, thepla, cookies, water, and chai. Before entering the hall, each person was given a coloured wristband. We received red wristbands. Once inside, no one could leave until their wristband colour was called. The green wristbands were called first because those guests required seating. Shortly afterward, the red wristbands were called, and we lined up to make our way downstairs.

We passed through security, removed our shoes, and were each given a snack bag containing gathiya, a cookie, and apple slices. Then we entered the Deedar Hall.

The moment we walked in, I was overwhelmed. Our seats were incredible. The stage was covered in beautiful white carpet, and a red carpet stretched out in front of it. Volunteers stood respectfully in a perfect line along both sides of the red carpet, creating a sense of dignity, order, and honour. The atmosphere was peaceful, beautiful, and filled with anticipation. At that moment, I knew I was witnessing something truly extraordinary.

As we waited quietly in our seats, there was a feeling in the hall that is hard to put into words. Thousands of murids sat together in complete silence, patiently waiting for the moment we had all travelled for. Despite the size of the hall, it felt incredibly peaceful. Everyone’s attention was focused on one thing—the arrival of our beloved Imam.

Then the moment finally came.

As Mawlana Shah Rahim entered the hall, the entire atmosphere changed. I felt an overwhelming sense of joy, peace, and emotion. Looking at him for the first time as our Imam, all of the doubts I had carried in my heart disappeared. It was as though everything suddenly made sense. The uncertainty I had felt over the past months was replaced with complete faith and confidence.

I found myself becoming emotional. It wasn’t because of anything that was said—it was simply the feeling of being in the presence of our Imam. It is something that cannot truly be explained unless you experience it yourself. The love, the peace, and the spiritual connection I felt in that moment were unlike anything I have ever experienced before.

As I looked around the hall, I saw thousands of fellow Ismailis from different backgrounds, all united by the same love and devotion. It reminded me that no matter where we come from, we are one Jamat under one Imam. Seeing the volunteers standing with such pride and humility, serving every murid with kindness and respect, made me even prouder to be part of this community.

When the Deedar came to an end, I wished it could have lasted longer. Leaving the hall was emotional because I knew the experience was over, but I also left with something that will stay with me forever. I left with a renewed faith, a peaceful heart, and a deeper appreciation for the blessing of having a living Imam to guide us.

Before Calgary, I struggled to accept Mawlana Shah Rahim because I had spent my entire life knowing Mawlana Shah Karim as my Imam. Today changed everything. Calgary was more than just a Deedar—it was a turning point in my faith. I returned home with complete conviction, immense gratitude, and a heart full of happiness. I will always cherish this day as one of the greatest blessings of my life.

We were incredibly blessed to have seats right in front of the stage, directly facing our beloved Mawla Bapa. It felt like a gift that we never expected.

The Deedar Hall was very warm, humid, and packed with thousands of murids. As we sat waiting, my legs began to hurt from sitting so long. Every time everyone stood to recite a tasbih , our space seemed to get smaller and smaller. By the time Mawla Bapa arrived, I was sweating from the heat and excitement.

Around 2:30 p.m., Mawla Bapa arrived. He stepped out of his vehicle and walked along the back of the building toward his lounge. Prince Irfan and Prince Sinan were with him. About ten minutes later, he began making his way toward the Deedar Hall. Before entering, he turned around, bent down, and spoke briefly to both of his sons. It was a beautiful moment to witness before he continued into the hall.

As soon as he entered, the excitement throughout the hall was incredible. Everyone was trying to catch their first glimpse of him as he walked from the back of the hall toward the stage.

Quietly, I prayed to myself, “I hope Mawla Bapa stops in front of us.”

As he walked along the red carpet, he smiled, waved, and greeted the Jamat by saying, “Khanavadan, Khanavadan.” At one point, he even stepped back to reach out and give his hand to a young child. It was a touching act of kindness that showed how much he cares for every murid.

When he came directly in front of us, he stopped near a different Afghani family again, a husband and wife who were seated just ahead of us. Mawla Bapa gave them a thumbs-up and gently asked, “Are you okay?” Then, as he continued toward the stage, he looked in our direction. That brief moment meant so much to me and is something I will always remember.

Once on stage, the reciters began with the ginan and qasida, followed by the Mukhi presenting the bay’ah on behalf of the Jamat. Mawla Bapa then stood and accepted the bay’ah.

Mawla Bapa spoke very softly, and at times it was difficult to hear every word. During the recitations, I noticed him looking in our direction several times. It felt very special to me. I remember thinking that if he ever asked for my tie, I would have happily given it to him. At one point, he also noticed me drinking water from Kayden’s water bottle, which made me smile.

In his first Farman, he spoke about artificial intelligence, the importance of faith, and reflected on the Prophets Muhammad and Jesus. He reminded us to remember Allah while also speaking about the changing world and our responsibilities, including our work and daily lives. With a smile, he also remarked that it was really hot inside the hall, which everyone could certainly agree with.

His second Farman was directed toward the youth. He repeatedly encouraged them to use their akal—their intellect and wisdom—saying the word “akal” three times for emphasis. He told the young people that he hoped they were present of their own free will and not simply because their parents had made them attend. He encouraged them to think for themselves, pursue education and meaningful careers, and make wise decisions throughout their lives.

He then turned his attention to the parents. His message was simple but incredibly powerful: accept your children for who they are. He reassured every child by saying that their Mawla would always love them and would always be there for them. Those words touched my heart deeply.

Before concluding, Mawla Bapa said that he would be giving everyone a tasbih and encouraged us all to remember Allah.

As he was leaving the hall, he noticed a different Afghani family again. Seeing the gentleman fanning his wife because of the heat, Mawla Bapa asked, “Are you okay?” The gentleman replied that his wife was pregnant. Mawla Bapa immediately responded with blessings for both the mother and the baby. It was another beautiful example of his compassion.

At that moment, he looked in our direction once again. I raised my hand and waved. To my amazement, he waved back. It was such a simple gesture, but one that touched my heart in a way I will never forget.

After making his way through the hall, Mawla Bapa exited. My legs were so stiff from sitting that I couldn’t wait to stand and stretch. I quickly made my way to the washroom.

Later, after the dua and ginan during khane, many of us assumed Mawla Bapa had already departed. Then the cameras showed him near the exit. He had stopped to speak with two girls and a teenage boy. In a wonderful and unexpected moment, he removed his own tie and exchanged it with the young man.

Watching that happen made me smile. Earlier, I had quietly wished that if Mawla Bapa ever wanted my tie, I would have given it to him without hesitation. Of course, with nearly 16,000 murids present, I knew that was simply my own heartfelt thought. Still, witnessing his kindness and spontaneous interaction with the youth made the entire experience even more memorable.

As I left the BMO Centre that day, I realized that the Deedar had changed me. I arrived still carrying uncertainty in my heart. I left with peace, gratitude, and a much deeper faith. The love, humility, and compassion that Mawla Bapa showed throughout the day strengthened my belief in him as our Imam.

This was one of the most touching and unforgettable days of my life, and it is a memory I will cherish forever.
One of the most beautiful parts of the day was seeing the excitement on the kids’ faces. Ilhan absolutely loved watching the Princes on the stage, taking in every moment with so much joy and curiosity. Kayden couldn’t take his eyes off Mawla Bapa and was so happy just to see him. Watching them experience such a blessed occasion filled our hearts with gratitude.

We were also incredibly blessed to have amazing seats right in front of the stage. Being so close made the experience even more special and unforgettable. Seeing Mawla Bapa with our family, especially through the eyes of our children, is a memory we will treasure forever. It was truly a day filled with blessings, joy, and gratitude.

Afternoon session summary

Started by saying it is warm afternoon.
Followed by Dua Aashish for material and spiritual growth. May Allah ease your pain.

Spoke on what is Baya’h for 6-7 mins. When you give Baya’h, it creates spiritual bond between imam and murids. It is done with freewill and love. It means nothing if it’s not from your freewill. I accept all your Baya’h. Giving Baya’h is giving your loyalty and love.

Mentioned all Natik prophets, imams and all Imam being spiritual light of Ali.
Imam said about faith being binary thing. And Allah guides to those whom He wills.
He spoke about service and giving.
Dua Aashish for those who gave, is giving and will be giving service.

He mentioned how it takes courage for your convictions. And without that you cannot be free. Our faith is faith of conviction and not compulsion.

To have conviction takes your time, commitment and courage.

There is difference between faith and community life. There are those who consider them same, but we don’t. He said community is all the extended family members like interfaith..but faith is in the Ismaili Tariqah, where intellect is used to know your destiny.

God given intellect (Aql) is to use and know your destiny.

I see all of you today.

The love of your Imam knows no limit

There is unemployment. Help the youth’s in their career, with jobs, internships. He elaborated a bit more on this.
He said Imam is with you in your dark hours and good times.
Youth is the future engine of Jamat.
If you cannot attend congregational prayers, Take time out for private contemplation. Sit with yourself.

If you are capable of giving in any way, then be of service.

Body needs exercise and practising faith is for your soul.

Canadians have voluntary spirit, he said he is proud of Canadians Jamat. About 1/4 of the Jamat is volunteering today.

He doesn’t want to see isolation.
Some community promote individualism, but that is not the way of life for us.
Mentioned about how we need to respect partents and grand parents. From them you have to learn many things.

He mentioned about AI, to learn and explore AI and use it, but do not lose your intellect and creativity. Use AI but also think critically with the awl that God has given you.

He said he can see the light in this Jamat.
Service is also a smile and being patient , which I see in this Jamat.

Give shukrana day and night.
Anytime during the Day Remember Allah. And even give thanks for that moment
Remember Allah in the beginning of the day and end of the night
Bring Allah in your consciousness

Imam said before I used to do youth mulaqaat and now I would like to address youth with parents.

Then addressed both youth and parents.

Youth were told to listen to their parents and grandparents and then make their own meaningful decision.

Parents were told to accept the children as they are. The Imam loves them, so you should also love them.
I am here, the elders are here.

I want to tell my jamat to struggle which will build resilience. Build resilience, do hard things, it is okay to struggle. Struggle will build resilience. Struggle and suffering are two different things, struggle will build resilience, expand your intellect and stretch your limits.

Remember life is short and soul is eternal. Give time to that part of you.
Something very fascinating happened at the Calgary Mulaqat this afternoon. Hazer Imam was exiting the Didar hall and a Murid wearing a Tajik outfit was standing by the door. Hazer Imam stopped by and admired his beautiful tie. Instinctively, the Murid untied his tie and presented it to the Imam. In turn, Hazer Imam took off his own tie and gave it to the Murid. The Imam then exited the hall while carefully holding the tie, admiring it and sat in the waiting car.

2026, July 24:
Earlier, it seemed the leadership weren’t sure if the Princes would be joining and then closer to time, two more chairs were brought on the stage, they were the same style but just slightly smaller.

Hazar Imam arrived around 8:30. He walked the entire red carpet, and went up and down each pathway. His sons followed, waving at the Jamat and at one point Prince Sinan put his hands together to make a heart. Hazar Imam continued acknowledging the Jamat and turned back a few times to look at His boys and to share some brief words. Hazar Imam also stopped to touch the head of a newborn baby in the Jamat. The Jamat maintained decorum and was very dignified.

At the stage, Hazar Imam sat with both boys to His left, Prince Sinan in the middle then Prince Irfan. Prince Sinan’s feet didn’t reach the floor, it was very sweet.

As the ceremony began, Hazar Imam looked around at the Jamat, very seriously, seemingly taking it all in.

The chain was placed around His neck and recitations commenced. During the Zikr, Hazar Imam turned to look at His boys. After the pledge of Bayah, Hazar Imam came to the podium to address the Jamat. He started by acknowledging a comment he had made in Berlin about the two things that make Him most happy - seeing his Jamat, and of course His children Irfan and Sinan. And today He had both together, so we could imagine His happiness.

He gave a Firman then, starting with lots of Dua, and then acknowledging the meaning of Bayah, and the history behind it.

After that Mehmanis were presented by MK’s of HQ, Westwinds, Franklin and South. They were followed by University MK’s and then all four Students MKs from of each attending Jamatkhana also presented. This seemed to bring Hazar Imam lots of joy.

Hazar Imam came back on the stage and gave another Firman, acknowledging his profound joy of seeing His youth Jamat, and that He has previously given Firmans to the youth separately but today the parents would hear it too. It was lighthearted and the Jamat laughed.

Some of the key messages:
- Freedom of choice in Faith
- The importance of making good choices, looking after ourselves and not indulging in bad social habits
- Being able to say no even when others are doing things that are harmful
- ECS and Kindergarten are important for foundations
- Being exemplary parents, we can teach our children but also have to lead by example
- Laying foundations for faith
- Respecting children’s wishes, they can make their own decisions but give them the information to make those decisions
- Take care of physical and mental health, moving your body, and nutrition
- We are a community dedicated to service, supporting our families, and being a good parent is part of that service
- Being part of the community, isolation is not healthy
- Differentiating between community and faith, which some might think is the same
- Doesn’t have to be binary
- Spouses and families of other faiths, and those with no religious belief are all part of our community
- The successful settlement of our pioneers and the resilience and strength it demonstrates
- Those arriving now can have an even better settlement
- He is always with us, even when He leaves physically
- Suggested talking about Firmans at home, understanding the guidance

After the Firman, Hazar Imam sat down and looked at his boys. He got a look of approval from both boys. It was a sweet smile from Prince Sinan, and a good job/thumbs up motion from Prince Irfan.

On the way out, Hazar Imam took a shorter route, but still spent time to acknowledge and bless the Jamat on his way. He bent down to fist pump a child and also passed by the sick beds. Irfan and Sinan followed but by the time they exited the hall, they had taken the lead and were in front of Hazar Imam. They shook hands once more with the MKs of HQ and made their way back through the lounge to see the bookmark installation and then left the building shortly after.

Mawlana Hazar Imam graced the Edmonton and Prairies Jamats with two didars at the BMO Centre in Calgary. Hazar Imam was accompanied by his sons Prince Irfan and Prince Sinan.


In the morning session, the Mukhi of Calgary Headquarters Jamatkhana submitted bayʿa on behalf of the Jamat of Calgary.

Hazar Imam was later presented with an art installation titled IQRA: A Living Library of Knowledge and Wisdom. Inspired by the Imam’s guidance on reading as a pathway to greater empathy, the wooden bookcase showcases original books, textiles, and artifacts reflecting the Jamat’s diverse composition.

In the afternoon session, the Mukhi of Edmonton Headquarters Jamatkhana submitted bayʿa on behalf of the Jamats of Edmonton, Lethbridge, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.

Hazar Imam was later presented with an art installation titled Drops of Mercy. Inspired by the Imam’s guidance on intergenerational care, this installation features a photographic mosaic of community art, fifty raindrops representing caring pledges from youth alongside words of wisdom from our elders, and a central raindrop motif symbolising divine mercy.
