Mawlana Hazar Imam Announces Official Visit to India

At the invitation of the Government of India, Mawlana Hazar Imam will undertake an official visit to the country from 9 to 15 September 2026.

In a Talika Mubarak read in Jamatkhanas worldwide, Hazar Imam said he looks forward to meeting his India Jamat.

To be able to focus his attention on the Jamat there, Hazar Imam does not wish members of the Jamat from other parts of the world to travel to India during his visit.

On the auspicious occasion of the India Visit of our beloved Mawlana Hazar Imam, ITREB India is pleased to announce auditions to eligible members of the Jamat for recitations during the Huzur and Intezari of Mawlana Hazar Imam.

Didar Registration


Following the announcement of Mawlana Hazar Imam's visit to India in September 2026, registration for the Didar will open soon.

Eligible members are requested to register at their respective Jamatkhana Didar Registration Desk within the registration period. Registration will start on 10 August 2026.

Registration closes on Sunday 16 August 2026. Members are encouraged to complete their registration well before the deadline.

Steps to Register:

- Registration must be completed at your respective Jamatkhana Didar Registration Desk
- One Primary Family Member should register on behalf of all eligible members of the family.
- Please carry all required identification and supporting documents when you register.
- Documents to Carry (Any 1) : Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Birth Certificate for infants, Passport, Voter ID, Drivers License.
- Please carry supporting documents for each family member being registered.
- Please note : Government ID provided at the time of registration needs to be carried along on the day of the Didar along with the access card.

Eligibility
- The Didar is only for the India Jamat.
- Individuals should not have attended any Didar since February 2025.
- The individual should be a resident of India and should have stayed in India for more than six months in the last twelve months.
- Individuals should be able to produce an eligible identity document for themselves and each family member, such as an Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID Card, Passport, or Birth Certificate, when registering their family with volunteers.
- Students pursuing studies abroad will be eligible only if they have not attended any Didar in the countries where they are studying or visiting since February 2025.

Depuis son avènement, il s’agit de la première visite officielle de l’Aga Khan V e n Inde. Ce déplacement ravive aussi une mémoire commune. C’est à Mumbai, sous le Raj Britannique, que le premier Aga Khan, Hasan Ali Shah, s’est installé en 1845. Il y repose désormais, au mausolée de Mazgaon, quartier où s’érigeait sa propriété d’Aga Hall et où l’AKDN a lancé un vaste programme de rénovation urbaine, voici quelques années. La zone accueille désormais des bâtiments basse consommation (immeubles d’habitation, écoles, hôpital et résidence tertiaire) qui non seulement redessinent le paysage mais améliorent aussi les conditions de vie d’une population soumise à des conditions climatiques extrêmes.

Le palais de Pune, de l’Aga Khan à Gandhi

Autre demeure ayant appartenu à la famille du prince Rahim, le Palais de Pune est devenu un mémorial dédié à la mémoire de Gandhi. Inscrit au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO en 1993, ce chef-d’œuvre du XVIe siècle retrouve sa splendeur au bout de deux décennies de partenariat avec l'Archaeological Survey of India en intégrant plusieurs chantiers annexes : création d’un arboretum de 36 hectares, réhabilitation des infrastructures scolaires et sanitaires alentour, gestion écologique des eaux et déchets…

Un musée complétant ce projet est inauguré par le prince Rahim, le 29 juillet 2024. This is the first official visit of Aga Khan V to India since his accession. The trip will be punctuated by didars – communion with his followers – in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, and will lay the groundwork for new partnerships between the AKDN and the government of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister since 2014.
Mumbai, the cradle of the Aga Khan family's history in India:

This visit also rekindles a shared memory. It was in Mumbai, under the British Raj, that the first Aga Khan, Hasan Ali Shah, settled in 1845. He now rests there, in the Mazgaon mausoleum, the district where his Aga Hall estate once stood and where the AKDN launched a vast urban renewal program a few years ago. The area now houses energy-efficient buildings (residential buildings, schools, a hospital, and office space) that not only reshape the landscape but also improve the living conditions of a population subjected to extreme weather.

Another residence belonging to the family of Prince Rahim, Pune Palace has become a memorial dedicated to the memory of Gandhi. Aga Khan III – who, in the 1930s, established cooperative banks and educational institutions in Mumbai and Hyderabad under the Diamond Jubilee banner – decided to build this residence at the end of the 19th century to provide a means of subsistence for Indians afflicted by several waves of famine. A museum complementing this project was inaugurated by Prince Rahim on July 29, 2024. This temple, dedicated to Mughal history, architecture, and arts, also revisits the Sufi heritage of the surrounding Nizamuddin district. The man who would become Aga Khan V less than a year later praised this "gratifying collaboration with the people and government of India." Large gatherings can sometimes feel overwhelming due to crowds, noise, unfamiliar surroundings or changes in routine. The Support Hub offers a welcoming space where individuals can take a break, regulate, relax, engage in activities and receive support at their own pace.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan V — the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Chair of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) — arrived in India on Wednesday, September 9, for a week-long visit, having been invited by Vice President C P Radhakrishnan.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit runs from September 9 to 15, with Prince Rahim set to meet President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. He is also due to hold separate meetings with Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

His itinerary extends beyond the capital to Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Hyderabad, cities where AKDN runs a range of community and development programmes.

According to the MEA, this marks Prince Rahim's first trip to India since taking over as the 50th Imam of the Ismaili community.

Prince Rahim assumed the role of 50th hereditary Imam of the Nizari Ismaili Muslims in February 2025, after the death of his father, Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, under the community's established succession customs.

The Ismaili faith dates back over 1,400 years and centres on allegiance to a living, hereditary spiritual leader, with adherents present in more than 35 countries.

Beyond his religious role, Prince Rahim sits on the boards of several AKDN-affiliated institutions and plays a part in overseeing the Ismaili community's social bodies as well as the Institute of Ismaili Studies.
