“The Universal Law”
By: Khayal ‘Aly
January 5th 2004

The whole universe chants His most beautiful Name
It is the universal law so how can I not do the same?

All things, high and low, have been given a soul
They are individual parts from the universal whole.

Knowingly or otherwise, all feel the pull
All souls must return to the Nafs-i-Kull.

Verily we are from it, and to it do we return
If we are to become fana’ than in it we must burn.

Like Hallaj’s moth, our intellect burns in the candle fire
Like melted wax, we change our attire as our ‘aql rises higher.

Like rising smoke, our partial intellect is elevated
Uniting with ‘Aql-i-Kull, from which it was created.

Universal Intellect and Universal Soul are two angels on high
They submit to another being, which is the highest of the high.

The two great angels work only by His command
‘His is the authority’ over heaven and earth, sea and land.

Above all direction, ‘neither of the east nor the west’
He is the Olive, whose luminous oil is blessed.

He is al-amr, the command of God, who simply says ‘Be’
The Beginning and the End are contained in this decree.

O possessor of intellect and soul, submit yourself
Submit yourself to ‘He who is above all else.’

Only then can your soul become fana’
Only then can your intellect experience baqa’.

It is the universal law to seek His most beautiful Name
The whole universe chants it, so how can I not do the same?
