Pir Shams Urges Spiritual Awareness 24-7. Ginan Garbi With Music.

This is a ginan garbi, a subgenre within ginans (devotional hymns) where the lyrics are set to dance. In modern times they are recited in more religious settings by Ismailis. According to folklore, Pir Shams used these garbis in the 14th Century for proselytizing purpose where he would participate in dancing with villagers during their festive occassions and use these lyrics to communicate his message.

Composed by Pir Shams Sabzwari
Recited by Alijah Gulamhussein Gulamani

tame japjo deen raat ke,
ma(n)deer maa(n)he mahaaljore lol

Remember (the name of the Lord) day and night,
and enjoy thereby in this universe (or house)

Not true, please do not mislead people. He wrote to Aziz Tejpar and it was printed in one of the souvenir issues from Kisumu that no musical instruments in the prayer hall but it was ok in the social hall or other places of the JK. Imam has also said do not mislead others. Misleading is Nafarmani.

To play music in prayer hall of JK was restricted from time of MSMS. Past few years some Ismaili musicians have started this trend on U Tube to show their colors. In Pakistan complete restriction was imposed in early 70s. The reason was some Ismailis contributed Ginans with music to play in dramas in Adamji auditorium Karachi, also I heard the Ismaili musician Karim Shahbudin introduced some ginanic ragas in composing movie music.

Ginans with music are played in the presence of Imam and with his blessings as Abida Parween confirmed to me in Karachi at the Marrriot in October 2000.

I am glad that some Ismailis are putting Ginans on Youtube, this will contribute to save the tradition. If there was Youtube in the time of Pir Sadardin, I am sure he would have put all of his ginans there and we would not have lost so many. Congratulations and prayers for all those who sing beautiful ginans and publicize this wonderful tradition in social halls and in social medias..

If they are saying Ginans without music it is fine, BUT IT SHOULD BE WITH PROPER PRONUNCIATION AND RAGA, and they must give Ginan meaning also so that non Ismailis including our youth who do not know Gujrati can understand the message.
But what I have listen so far, mostly mucicians have changed raga, meter, dialect and tone of classical touch with bad pronunciation.
I don't think any one is going to contribute ANANT AKHARO with music on U- Tube. They are interested in fast music.

Strange! now Kalam e Mowla and Ginans have become copyright??
Please look at tone, and raga, the reciter has drifted away from the traditional raga. On U-Tube it is free for all.

Actually not. The matter demands some research before making demagogical statement, since we do have a proper manuscript assigning the Kalame Mowla to Pir Shams.

Do you have information in which year the VERY FIRST KALAM E MOWAL was published and by which institution. I wander Imam spends millions of dollars on ITREBs and ISS but still we wander for basic information and manuscripts. Our scholars are good in just translating Ginans and use research of non Ismaili scholars by quoting from their Arabic or Persian translations.

Appreciate their effort, but wander mostly Ismailis particularly youth in North America do not understand or speak Gujrati, how shall they understand the meaning, message, and spiritualism in ginans.

So the listeners first will listen on application. Then try to find the translation of that particular Ginan on Heritage site. TIYAAR SUDHI VEERA BAI VAPRAI JASHEY.

There is a Ginan App on Heritage with audio and translations whenever available. The App is for Android which dominate the mobile market at this point. The version 2 of the App is under preparation and will be more complete, for example all of the ginans will have an audio.

Ginan With Jazz Music

Pir Sadardin's

Dhan Dhan Aajno Daadd Lore
It's an auspicious day today!

This popular ginan is widely recited during Mawlana Hazar Imam's Birthday Celebrations every year.

JollyGul.com has produced this ginan with jazz music with help of professional artists for the enjoyment of the Jamat. It's also in the spirit of building bridges and making connections with other genres of music.

Our ginans are a "wonderful tradition" and if we can produce them in multiple formats and styles for different audiences, then we have a much better chance of taking their core message of love, tolerance and devotion even farther and wider.

JollyGul.com is an independent Ismaili music search and discovery website run by the Gulamani Family in memory of Alijah Gulamhussein Gulamani.

Have you realized how these musicians have changed the Raga. They have mostly embedded the fast beats to modern Hip Hop and Rock music.

The title says ginan with jazz music, are you reading what people are writing? Does not look like.

And as far as there is no music in JK prayer hall, there is no problem. Let the people keep the ginans alive whatever means they find. That will compensate for those who want to destory the wonderful tradition of the ginans.
