Kenya jurisdiction - Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Namibia and South Africa
Re: Kenya Didar Aug 25-27 2025

At the invitation of the President of Kenya, William Ruto, Mawlana Hazar Imam will undertake an official visit to Kenya from 25-27 August 2025, in conjunction with which he will meet with the Jamat under the jurisdiction of the Council for Kenya.
To be able to focus his attention on the Jamat in this jurisdiction, Hazar Imam does not wish members of the Jamats from other countries to travel to Kenya during his visit.
Mawlana Hazar Imam has reiterated his desire and intention to travel extensively and have opportunities to meet with as many Jamats as possible in person.

Re: Kenya Didar Aug 25-27 2025

In accordance with the guidance of Mawlana Hazar Imam, the Kenya Didar is intended exclusively for bona-fide residents of the Kenya Jurisdiction permanently residing in the Jurisdiction. Furthermore, it is Mawlana Hazar Imam’s desire that each murid attend only one Didar during the current cycle of Didars.
General Eligibility Criteria
Kenya Jurisdiction comprises the countries of Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda, Burundi, Namibia, Botswana and Eswatini.
Bonafide residents need to meet all of the following criteria:
- Have resided in the Jurisdiction countries for a continuous period of six months or more in the last twelve-months;
- Have full-time accommodation available to them during the period of residency;
- Are permanent resident holding a valid identification documentation issued by the Jurisdiction country governments, or possess a current resident, work, investor or student permits or dependent pass;
- Are registered under the Kenya Jurisdiction Jamati database; and
- File individual employment tax returns with the tax authorities in the Jurisdiction.
Citizens of Jurisdiction countries who have migrated to non-Jurisdiction countries at any time including during the last 12-months, are registered in the database of that non-Jurisdiction country and who therefore do not meet fully the residency criteria are not eligible even if they hold Kenya Jurisdiction citizenship as Residency in the Kenya Jurisdiction is not contingent upon only having citizenship or possession of government-issued identification, unless all of the above criteria are fully met.
Family members / children of residents who live and work in non-Jurisdiction countries are also not eligible.
Students from foreign countries studying within the Jurisdiction countries, who hold a valid student visa or permit, will be required to provide a letter from their educational institution confirming active enrollment.
Children of qualifying permanent residents who are studying abroad on a valid student visa are eligible, however, individuals who have graduated and are currently employed abroad under a valid work or investor permit, having full time accommodation and paying employment taxes in that non-Jurisdiction country are not eligible.
Citizens of other countries who meet the residency criteria in the Kenya Jurisdiction or newly arrived murids who have acquired a permanent home in Kenya and are in possession of valid residency documents, and who qualify for Didar in two or more countries will be permitted to select only one preferred option. The relevant Council(s) of the other countries will be notified of this selection to prevent duplication of participation. Accordingly, the member will be required to sign a declaration confirming their choice.
Special rules will govern murids residing in countries not affiliated to any jurisdiction, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The identification documents (passports or ID Cards), house ownership or rental agreements and tax and property tax returns will only be requested, at the sole discretion of the registration team, where additional information is required to confirm the residency status. Jamati members can also be asked to provide additional information after registration, where new information comes to light on meeting the eligibility criteria.
Youth Mulaqat
Apart from fully meeting the general residency criteria above, to qualify, the Youth member shall have attained the age of 15 years and shall not have turned 26 years of age on the date of the Mulaqat.
Multifaith Spouses Session
Eligible members for this session include resident Ismaili murids residing in the Kenya Jurisdiction who are legally married to multifaith spouses. The multifaith spouse should also meet the residency criteria.
Multifaith spouses who are widowed or divorced and have Ismaili children, and who maintain a close connection to the community are also eligible.
For this session, children from multifaith households will not be eligible to participate in this session.

Preparation of Didar 2025 in Kenya:

Re: Kenya Didar Aug 25-27 2025

The National Council has introduced an online process for the Jamat to check eligibility for the upcoming General Didar, Youth Mulaqat, and Multifaith Session. By visiting the link below, members can view their eligibility status and, where required, submit supporting documentation to confirm their participation. This process ensures that all qualifying members of the Kenya Jurisdiction have the opportunity to attend, in line with Mawlana Hazar Imam’s guidance that the Didar is intended exclusively for bona-fide residents of the Jurisdiction.
DIDAR REGISTRATION PROCESS
The National Council has released a link for the Jamat to confirm their eligibility for the various sessions - General Didar, Youth Mulaqat and Multifaith Session
https://akji-kenya.org/checkeligibility
Once you click the link, it will show which session(s) you and the household members are eligible for (in which case no further action is required), if you or the household member is not eligible (as the member does not meet the required criteria based on the information on the Jamati portal), or further documentation requirement to enable the team to confirm eligibility.
Where the status shows that a member is not eligible or further documentation is required and one meets the eligibility criteria, you are required to provide the following documentation to the respective local centers by Friday 15th August 2025:
- Valid ID or passport with relevant visas to support that the member has been present in Kenya for a continuous period of six-months in the last twelve-months
- Proof of address e.g. utility bill or property tax payments
- Proof of employment or active enrolment in an educational institution in the Kenya Jurisdiction countries
- Any additional documents supporting residency or eligibility.
Members who want to register for the multi-faith session must bring:
- Valid ID or passport
- Marriage certificate.
The documents can be submitted as follows:
- Nairobi Centre - In-person assistance only at the Nairobi Council office: 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
- Mombasa Centre - Shelina Khalfan on +254 722 717656
- Kisumu Centre - Hussein Jamal on +254 733 575414
- Burundi - Salim Khoja on +257 76302786
- Rwanda - Sharmin Jiwani on +250 736 282020
- South Africa Centre - Shaista Manekia on +27 72 518 9809
The team will collect and verify the documents within 48-hours of receipt, and after an internal review process the member will be notified through the portal of any change in the status (member to check the status on the above link within 72-hours following the submission of the documents).
Independent Appeal Process
Where after submission of the documents and receipt of a final decision, Members who continue to be deemed ineligible may submit an appeal to the independent Access Committee comprised of senior leaders from the Jamat. The Committee will review each case individually and make a final determination, which will be final.
The appeal can be submitted to cabkenya@gmail.com providing detailed reasons for the appeal and any further supporting documents. The documents submitted earlier need to be resubmitted as there will be shared internally on all appeal cases.
The Committee may contract the Member directly for a hearing or for any further clarification. The Jamati member will be informed of the appeal decision within 72-hours of submission of the appeal.
The National Council seeks the Jamats forbearance was go through this process to ensure that every qualifying Member of the Jamat can partake in the Didar.
