A Story from Eldoret 4
From Karim Kanani
I live in Eldoret. I used to go for extra classes when I was a student. On my way I would see the beautiful home of Hassanali Dedhar.
It was an English style house with a garden. The interior was finished with rich wood. In fact it was perfectly suited to hosting Mowlana Hazar Imam in the fifties.
After Hazar Imam’s visit to Eldoret he went to Uganda. It was a busy schedule so stopping in Malakisi was not an option.
However the Malakisi Jamat had the desire that maybe Hazar Imam would stop by.
The Jamat in their desire built an outdoor camp. All week they worked to make it beautiful. Their Hindu community joined in. Finally it was complete. The night before the big day, a heavy tropical storm brewed and all their hard work was in ruins.
The Jamat and their friends did not give up. They built it up again.
The morning of Mowlana Hazar Imam’s visit, fresh flowers adorned the shamyana.
Their intezar had begun.
As the cavalcade passed Malakisi, Mowlana Hazar Imam requested a stop. He met with the Jamat. Their noble wish was fulfilled. Nimira was able to shower her flowers for her Imam.
Mowlana Hazar Imam proceeded to Uganda. Leaving the Malakisi Jamat celebrating their good fortune.

Eldoret Jamatkhana was on India Road, now named Moi Road.
The Jamatkhana on Eldoret was built circa 1936.
There were some pioneering families in Eldoret. They were also Entrepeureur and served the Jamat and the Imam.
Count Hassanali Dedhar was a member of the Supreme Council. He was also on the Ismaili Constitution Committee.
My father, Vazier Ramzan Jamal would visit Eldoret and consult with Count Hassanali Dedhar.

I live in Eldoret. I used to go for extra classes when I was a student. On my way I would see the beautiful home of Hassanali Dedhar.
From the Aga Khan School, the students were allowed to go to Mowlano Rojo Mandli. After the prayers, the students would go back.
Going for evening prayers to Jamatkhana was a daily routine. All other activities like homework fell around this daily prayer time. My parents went for morning as well as evening prayers.
The Dedhar residence was an English style house with a garden. The interior was finished with rich wood. In fact it was perfectly suited to hosting Mowlana Hazar Imam in the fifties.
The house was then bought by the Samnani family who now live in Calgary
I, Shariffa was a recipient of beautiful blue hydrangea plants from the Dedhar garden
