The well-known superyacht Alamshar, once owned by the Aga Khan, has now been sold, closing an important chapter in the yacht’s long and distinctive history. News of the sale has drawn attention because Alamshar has long been considered one of the most unusual yachts of her time.
Delivered in 2004 by Devonport Yachts, Alamshar stood out almost immediately after launch. Designed by Terence Disdale, her sharp lines and bold shape were very different from the more classic-looking yachts that were popular in the early 2000s.
At around 50 metres in length, Alamshar was built with speed in mind. Her aluminium hull and sporty profile gave her a fast, almost aggressive look, setting her apart from slower, heavier displacement yachts.
The yacht was commissioned by the Aga Khan, who wanted a vessel that combined luxury with strong performance. Over the years, Alamshar underwent a major refit, allowing her to stay in excellent condition and keep pace as newer yachts entered the market. The work helped preserve her original character while updating key systems and living spaces.

According to Superyacht Fans, Alamshar is believed to have sold for somewhere between $50 million and $53 million. The price reflects not only her condition, but also her unique design and high-profile ownership history.

Even after more than two decades, Alamshar still attracts interest thanks to her distinctive character. Yachts with a story and a strong sense of identity like Alamshar are becoming harder to find today, which is part of what makes her so appealing.
Inside, the yacht welcomes up to 10 guests, looked after by an experienced crew. The interior feels calm and comfortable rather than flashy, with a layout that puts practicality and ease of living first.
Alamshar has always been known for her speed. She was built to move faster than most yachts her size, and that performance-led approach is still a defining part of her character.
Her sale shows there is still real demand for yachts with personality and history. For buyers who want something different from the usual designs, yachts like Alamshar continue to stand apart.
