In a Talika read to the France jurisdiction Jamat yesterday evening, Mawlana Hazar Imam announced that he has authorised the design and construction of the Ismaili Centre Paris to proceed, bringing a major new institution to the French capital.

Hazar Imam reflected on the momentous occasion and outlined his aspiration for the Centre: “This building, which will be a symbol of the permanent presence of the Jamat in France, when completed, will be a significant addition to the architectural and cultural landscape of Paris…It is my hope that in addition to providing space for the Jamat's congregational practices, this Centre will become a social and cultural centre for the Jamat of the jurisdiction, its extended families and its neighbours.”

Plans for the project date back to 2008 when Mawlana Shah Karim, during his Golden Jubilee, expressed a wish to establish an Ismaili Centre in Paris. A site was later identified, and in recent years work has accelerated to propose plans and designs for the building. The construction phase is expected to reach completion in mid-2028.

Located in the 8th arrondissement of the French capital, just a stone’s throw from the Arc de Triomphe, the Ismaili Centre Paris will join a global family of buildings in London, Vancouver, Lisbon, Dubai, Dushanbe, Toronto, and Houston. Though their physical forms differ, they share a common purpose: to welcome, to promote reflection, and to foster understanding.

In a speech to the Jamat, President Aiaze Mitha of the Ismaili Council for France explained the significance of this development and the blessings it will bring to the Jamat: “It is an extraordinary gift bestowed upon us by our Imam: a unique project to which each of us has the opportunity to contribute, and a legacy to be passed on to future generations, for centuries to come… Insha’Allah, it will be a place of dialogue and harmony, of exchange and reflection, enabling us to build a strong and united Jamat, rooted in our values.”
