Yoweri K Museveni
@KagutaMuseveni
I was pleased to commission the $23.8 million Aga Khan University in Nakawa and to break ground for the Aga Khan Teaching Hospital! I would like to thank His Highness the Aga Khan and the Aga Khan Development Agency for their invaluable investments in Uganda across all sectors of our economy. In this joint venture, the government provided the land and we remain committed to enacting strong legislation that protects investors and helps create a robust private sector that boosts economic growth.

Yoweri K Museveni
During the anti-colonial struggle, there was some confusion regarding the private sector. Some believed it was tied to colonial rule, leading to disruptions of the development of properties like those belonging to the Aga Khan during nationalization. However, we studied this situation and recognized it as a mistake. We have since restored our relationship with the private sector, including the Aga Khan, acknowledging their vital role in development. Our brother, the late Aga Khan IV, whom I first learned about in my youth in Ntungamo, where Ismaili shops displayed his portraits as a young man, was recognized in 2017 for his exceptional contributions to the development of Uganda. Today, we also honor His Highness Aga Khan V and Princess Zahra for their service to our country.

"Our commitment to international standards of excellence will, I believe, bring transformational impact to Uganda and the region. It is a known fact that poor-quality health care costs as many lives as lack of access to care. Moreover, despite spending years in school, countless young people acquire only a fraction of the knowledge and skills they are meant to. Poor health and limited education rob individuals of their potential. At this campus, AKU will invest in developing the potential of Ugandans," His Highness Aga Khan V. #MonitorUpdates

The event will take place on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in the presence of:
• His Highness the Aga Khan (Chancellor of AKU)
• H.E. President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda
• Princess Zahra Aga Khan (Pro-Chancellor)

• First Lady of Uganda
2025, September 11:

President of Uganda

“ it seems the prayers of the Ismaili are stronger than other prayers, because you brought the rain. We've been waiting for rain, and I have been quietly praying, but it seems the Ismaili prayers may be stronger”

Full Speech

The Honourable Ministers who are here, starting with the Minister of Education and Sports, and all the people in attendance:

First of all, I want to extend our condolences again to His Highness the Aga Khan on account of the death of your late father who was a very good friend of ours and who had been here, not so long ago. We are very sorry that he died, when he was still making wonderful contributions to humanity.

Secondly, I welcome you here to Uganda, and members of your family, especially coming on this occasion of commissioning the University. Most welcome.

Thirdly, it seems the prayers of the Ismaili are stronger than other prayers, because you brought the rain. We've been waiting for rain, and I have been quietly praying, but it seems the Ismaili prayers may be stronger.

Yesterday I told His Highness of my first experience with the Ismaili in Ntungamo, my area there. We had a few Indian shops, we call all of you Indians, we don't know the difference. We had four Indian shops in Ntungamo, apparently, they all belonged to Ismailis. Now those Indians used to hang pictures in their shops, I told him yesterday. There were pictures of three people. Queen Elizabeth was on top, because we were under the British Empire at that time. Then, on the right there was an old man, an Asian old man. At that time I didn't know who he was. And then on the left, we had the King of that area, Omugabe. Now in 1957, we were told they changed the picture of the old Asian man, and they put a new young boy there. You could see from his face that he was young. And they said, this is the new King of the Indians. This was His Highness the Aga Khan. At that time, we thought all the Indians were all Ismailis. So that's when I started knowing about the Aga Khan Ismailis and so on. When I came to the Government here, I started working closely with him. I, therefore, want to salute the Aga Khan community for really being development oriented.

In 1959, when I left my small village, where we had our four Indian shops and two Arabs, I went to the district town of our area, in Mbarara. This was 1959, and there was a big secondary school there called Aga Khan Secondary School for children of Asians, but other children were also going there. That place is quite far from Kampala, it's like 200 miles. But at that time, 1959, there was already an Aga Khan Secondary School – I think it was a Junior Secondary School, or something like that. When I came to Kampala here, there was a big school, I don’t know whether it’s still there, in the Mengo area. It's called the Aga Khan Secondary School. Is it still there? Big school there – Aga Khan Secondary School, and then other projects.

As I told His Highness yesterday, there was some setback in the 1960s, caused by policy confusion. In the anti-colonial movement, there was some confusion about the role of the private sector. Some of the anti-colonial fighters were thinking that the private sector was linked to colonialism. So, if you wanted independence, the government must control the economy. And that's how our governments here, in East Africa, especially here and some other places, disrupted your programmes.

I remember that building, I don't know whether it’s still there, the IPS building in the centre of Kampala, and in Dar es Salaam, very nice buildings at that time.
But some of those properties were taken over by the governments of our area here. It was called nationalisation – in Swahili they were calling it kutaifisha.

The good thing, as I told His Highness, yesterday, is that some of us from 1960, continuously, have been part of the struggle for Africa’s independence. So, when we studied more, we found that there was a mistake in the thinking. It is true that the anti-colonial fighters yearned for independence and for strength. But how do you become strong? You cannot be strong if you don't have a strong economy. And then the question is, who can help you build a strong economy?

And that's how, by I think around 1975, we were now clear, I was clear myself, that there was really no problem with the private sector; that the private sector is the one which can help you to be stronger, to have a strong economy at a low cost … with their own supervision, and more innovation so that our full potential is fully utilised. Therefore, by the time we came into government in 1986, that confusion was clear in our heads. … We still have some [parastatals], like the National Water Corporation, but we privatised much of the economy. So therefore, that's how when we resumed our relationship with His Highness, it was with that clear vision. We returned all these properties of the private citizens which had been taken over by the government but also, the properties of the institutions like the Aga Khan. So, where we stand today, I want to assure His Highness and everybody concerned, that on the policy side, the freedom fighters in Africa are now clear.

And the good thing is that some of us had good authority. What Africans don't like are puppets of foreign interests. If they think you are a puppet of foreign interests, they will not be happy with you, because puppets have caused a lot of problems here, but, that was the advantage we had, everybody knew our history, who we are. And when I gave you the speech, which I gave in parliament here, when we were really having a strong argument about the way forward, what do we do? Is this good? Is this bad? Everybody’s now clear that the private sector is the correct way of building an economy. The government can come in here and there, but the main efforts should be by the private sector.

So therefore now, the investment climate in Uganda is good. There’s some corruption, be careful there! And the weakness is that the investors don't report these corrupt people. I normally find out myself later on. So, the investors, please expose these corrupt people, the ones who want money from you, the ones who want shares in companies for which they don't have any contribution – expose them! Otherwise, we are ready, and we can work very well together.

We are also working with our brothers in Africa on the issue of market integration, because you cannot have an economy or production without a market. Where do you sell your products? For a long time, we have been struggling with the issue of market integration and we are really more integrated. There are still some problems, but they will be overcome because logic is on the side of rationalisation, and part of the rationalisation includes market integration in Africa.

So therefore, I'm very happy to be here with Mama and with His Highness to commission this University Centre. Congratulations Aga Khan, and I thank you for building this world-class centre where the classrooms are digitally connected and they’re using high tech for education so that you don't have to do all the other manual things we used to do in the past.

We’re also happy about launching the hospital, groundbreaking, which we’ll start building, that will also help in health care. Whenever I would be in Tanzania or Kenya, I would hear, I never went there, but I used to hear Aga Khan Hospital. Even now many Ugandans go to Nairobi to the Aga Khan Hospital. So, I thank you and congratulate you for those two institutions, the University and the Hospital. I want to thank the Germans, I didn't know the Germans were involved. Germans, bravo! Thank you so much.

On the issue of health care, I want to inform you and the world that our people here are beginning to make good contributions to humanity. What of course many people don’t remember is that human beings have been here for the last four and a half million years, and these human beings started here in Africa. So, all you people, Asians, Europeans, Chinese, whatever, you are all former Africans. I always regard you as African diaspora. Now, what you had missed is that, so you are the diaspora, we are the ‘stayees’ who stayed here. … You can see the climate is good for the human being – much better than many parts of the world. When I'm in Europe, it’s very miserable there. Very cold, whenever I go there, I want to come back quickly. But this climate has also been good for our enemies. Good for us, but also for our enemies. The mosquitoes, the tsetse flies, the bacteria. That's why, originally, you, the diaspora, multiplied more than we, the ‘stayees’.

Until recently, the population of the whole of Africa has been smaller than the population of India. India has had a population of about 1.4 billion people, but until recently, the total population of Africa was fewer than the population of India. Yet Africa is 12 times bigger than India. You can fit India in Africa 12 times, but yet they had a bigger population. We have now overtaken India for the first time. We are now 1.5 billion, and in the next 30 years, we shall be 2.5 billion – we shall be a quarter of the human race. Now this is because at last, we have been able to control our enemies here; the mosquitoes, tsetse flies, the bacteria which were inhibiting the increase of the population here. But in that time, four and a half million years, we have gained a lot of knowledge about human health, which outsiders did not know. And when the Europeans came here, they came with a lot of arrogance, they sort of suppressed our great knowledge. But now, we have come up now. Our scientists are coming up and we are discovering a lot of solutions for human health.

Our people seem to have discovered medicine for diabetes for the first time, where diabetes can be cured, for the first time. Diabetes has been a big problem for humanity. Our people seem to have discovered medicine for cancer, all these cancers which have been causing problems. Our people seem to have found medicine for malaria in addition to quinine, which was found long, long ago in South America. Our people now have a solution different from quinine for malaria. Even myself, I know quite a number of solutions for human health and I've been telling the government to take them up.

So therefore, since you are interested in health, I thought I should let you know that, if you want, we can cooperate on that side also if you're interested in that area of this indigenous knowledge, working on it to turn it into modern forms, which can help the whole of humanity and do it cheaply and decisively – not being on drugs all the time, so, you get total recovery from those sicknesses.

Finally, when our late brother His Highness the Aga Khan was here, I gave him medals. I would now like to give similar medals to His Highness. And I now call, you go on the microphone and make a citation on how we should give medals to His Highness and members of the family.

I thank you and wish you good luck. -The Ismaili

AS RECEIVED: Here are several testimonies for the first Didar of Mowlana Shah Rahim, Aga Khan V.

Departing after Didar, the extraordinary feeling, look at this VIDEO!: https://ismaili.net/timeline/2025/2025- ... -didar.mp4

YAM, just came back from Didar. It was wonderful and joyous. Close to 3000 people in the jamat khana prayer hall. Beautifully decorated and it was over in 90 mins. MHI then on his way out to his limousine he greeted all the young boyscouts and girl guides. He joked and shook hands with almost everyone. They ruffled him up and wouldn't let him go  😀
--------------
One little Murid asked MHI to sign his autograph on his shirt, which he did. 🤩
------------
Shah Rahim’s departure to the airport after meeting with multifaith . Jamat instructed by Ugandan volunteers to stand on opposite embankment. Did not deter Shah Rahim’s love. He opened His window and put His hand out to acknowledge Jamat who showered motorcade with petals - the hand of Ali! Mashallah! He loves His Jamat and EVERYONE needs to learn and UNDERSTAND this potent fact!!
-------------
At 3:00 mins mark , Hazar Imam carried one of the children who was in biy scout uniform and in wheelchair in his arms. So special shukhar ❤ All the girlguides and boyscouts were hugging and kissing Hazar Imam's hand and saying we love you please don"t go snd Hazar Imam was shaking their hands and accepting their hugs and love💓
------------------------
Firmans similar to Nairobi. At the begining there were many children crying andcHazar Imam asked jamat to let them cry not to stop them. 6 people in urgent care area, Mawla went to talk to each and gave blessings. One young boy in wheelchair has cancer, Mawla sat down next to him and gave lots of duas. Mawla was very happy. Aporox 3000 people in JK for deedar. Shukhar
-------------------
Didaar moments - Uganda

Accounts told by Ugandan Ismailis and captured as accurately as possible:

It was such an intimate setting in Darkhana with about 2000 Ismailis

He thanked President Museveni and First Lady for their hospitality and honoring Him and Princess Zahra with the awards - Grandmaster and Commander, respectively.

He talked about how single income families should let women work to contribute to the family income

Babies were crying during the firman and MHI commented that hearing babies cry bring Him happiness

At one point a child wailed sonorously and MHI commented “oh that’s a loud one!”

One child grew restless and wanted to expend energy by moving about but was prevented to do so by the parent. MHI saw this and said “let the child run around”

When MHI left Jamat watched on screen as He greeted scouts and girl guides at the bottom of the iconic stairs of Darkhana

They gazed on fondly as children enthusiastically embraced MHI and kissed His hand. The adults were a bit taken aback by the furor of the children and expressed some shock. MHI waved it off saying it’s okay, it’s my fault not theirs, it’s okay. He had picked up a child who was in a wheelchair and hugged Him close

Such touching moments! The heart is exhilarated!!

Darkhana in Kampala was the site of a milestone moment on 12 September 2025, as Mawlana Hazar Imam graced the Jamat in Uganda with didar.

Mawlana Hazar Imam conveyed guidance and blessings to the Jamat across the world, and expressed thanks to volunteers for their efforts to organise the visit. He showered blessings on the Jamat and reminded us of his immense love and affection. Hazar Imam later granted a separate mulaqat to young members of the Jamat at Kololo Jamatkhana in Kampala.

Arzina Kurji, President of the Ismaili Council for Uganda, delivered a welcome address, and the Mukhi of Kampala Darkhana submitted bayʿa to the Imam on behalf of the Jamat.

A gift was presented to Hazar Imam on behalf of the Jamat: Two miniature paintings from a manuscript of prayers and hadiths, believed to originate from 18th century Ottoman Turkey. They depict the Prophet Muhammad and Mawlana Ali (peace be upon them) with companions and leaders of the community respectively.

To celebrate the happy occasion, the Jamat prepared an art installation entitled Saba' Turuq Ila an-Nur, or Seven Paths to the Light. The display represents the collective journey of the Jamat, migrating from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, the Middle East, East Africa, Europe, Canada, the UK, and the USA—coming together as one family in Uganda.

Drawing inspiration from the 12th-century poem The Conference of the Birds by Persian poet Farid al-Din Attar, the installation reflects the journey of the individual while affirming a shared identity within a larger, interconnected community.

Seven valleys are expressed through symbolic forms—hands, globes, hearts, leaves, and feathers—constructed from recycled paper, foam, cloth, recyclable plywood, metal, natural acrylic pigments, and the living greenery of Uganda. Upon these forms, members of the Jamat of all ages have inscribed pledges to care for the environment and to serve the Imam and his Jamat.

Multifaith Session - Uganda

Accounts told by some ismaili spouses and captured as accurately as possible

There were five tables with about 20 people at each table. Table leader talked to the group, asking for the questions they wished to ask MHI and compressed questions into about 4-5

Most notable was MHI and SS promising the group that converting to Ismaili faith would be much, much easier and procedures would be put into place to make it easier for those who wanted to convert to convert. Though it was not necessary or required for anyone to convert - there’s no pressure to do so. Children of multifaith families would be allowed to attend JK if both parents consented to this - not clear if this was attending to learn or after ba’yah given. Perhaps someone in attendance could clarify this better.

One lady remembered that today is Sept 12 and exactly 12 years ago, the day before her wedding to an Ismaili, the family of the groom insisted that she must convert in order to get married but she declined and the relationship broke. This she felt compelled to share with MHI and He… apologized to her, which melted her heart. She left the session saying “I just adore Him”

Youth didar moments - Uganda

Accounts from Ugandan Youth captured as accurately as possible:

1. MHI encouraged youth to express gratitude to Allah in and for all things

2. MHI advised youth to not just focus on getting “good grades”. What’s important is being and thinking creatively, to be able to think critically.

3. when looking at what youth want to do in the future, He said ask yourself 3 questions:
i. Is it ethical? As in is it lawful, is it legal?
ii. Is it something I can be committed to?
iii. Will it be relevant in 15 years time?

4. MHI encouraged youth to be tech savvy

5. He talked about the dangers of depression and mental health issues and cautioned the youth not to turn to bad social habits as a solution. Seek better solutions.

Mowla’s Farman – My Takeaway

Mowla started by saying he’s
happy to see Jamat welcoming those who have come from difficult and distressed areas. He gave his blessings and prayed for them and prayed that the wars would end.

He also mentioned that he is happy to see so many children involved in Jamat in Uganda and gave credit to the parents and teachers.

His message was really about making Uganda our home—living here fully and being part of Ugandan society. He emphasized that Uganda is a country of opportunity and a place where we can build generational wealth—but reminded us that this must always be done ethically.

He reminded us about the importance of earning well and living well. But he mentioned about the importance of also being prudent.

Additionally, he expressed his wish for the Jamat to be known within society as a community of ethical, honest, and credible people.

He emphasized that interfaith families are part of our families and should be included in all events.

He spoke about language, saying that English is the universal language and encouraging the Jamat to learn and speak it.

He also spoke about health and healthy lifestyle. We should do regular checkups and active lifestyle. To exercise regularly. He mentioned about prioritizing your own health first above your family and your neighbours.

Mowla emphasized the importance of attending Jamatkhana regularly. And for times when it may not be possible, he reminded us to pray. As a special gift of remembrance, he said he is giving the Jamat a Tasbih.

Mowla mentioned his spiritual daughters who are homemakers and raising children—that this is a wonderful role—as he is a single parent himself. But also commended spiritual daughters who work outside the home to support their families and contribute.

He gave special Dua to all the volunteers for their hardwork.

There were also some lovely light moments:
• He joked that he hoped the multi-faith spouses would ask him the difficult questions, not their partners.
• When babies cried, he said it was a good sign—healthy children making noise is normal.
• He noticed one little one eager to move around and told the mother it was completely fine.
• At one point, when a child screamed loudly in the middle of his Farman, Mowla smiled and said, “That’s a loud one.”

2025. September 12: {lease read next post for corrections.

As received:

Yesterday was a day of blessings we will never forget. 💫
Azrein was picked up by Bappa, hugged not once but twice.
Azrein experienced something so profound, something that carried within it a story much deeper than what was seen on the outside.

Bappa not only picked him up from among so many children, hugged him lovingly. He also gave Azrein His autograph and hugged him again🌸 This moment was not just about a hug or a signature—it was a divine reassurance, an answer to faith, struggle, and waiting.

The story behind this is something we feel everyone should know.
When Azrein was very small, he was deeply connected to his faith—spending time in religious activities and all with his parents, grandparents, following the spiritual path with such innocence and sincerity. When Shah Kareem passed away, it shook him to the core. He was devastated, unable to accept it, and would often ask us, “How is it possible? Everyone told me Bappa would come and give me didar , but Bappa passed away without giving me didar .”

No matter how much we, as parents, grandparents, bhaimas, missionary tried to explain that Shah Rahim would continue , Azrein struggled to accept. He longed for Shah Kareem, and his little heart carried that question everywhere why not Shah Kareem?

When the news came that Shah Rahim would indeed give didar , he was still hesitant. His innocent question always was, “Why not Shah Kareem?”

And then yesterday, in front of so many, Bappa picked him up, hugged him, and in that single gesture gave him the most powerful answer of all—that the Noor is the same. 🌟 That though his heart longed for Shah Kareem, the blessings of Shah Rahim carried the same Noor, the same love, the same light.

Even though countless times bhaimas, parents , missionary and elders explained this to him, it was only yesterday that the Imam himself gave that message directly to Azrein—“I am the same Noor.”

And as if that was not enough, when Azrein asked for Bappa’s autograph, Bappa did not have a pen. But He paused, asked the volunteers to bring one, and signed it for him. This was another miracle in its own right. For sometime it , Azrein used to tell us he wanted Bappa’s signature. We, as parents, Baima would smile and say, “We are just ordinary, simple Ismaili Muslims… where will we ever get Bappa’s signature? Maybe one day, if you grow up and serve in institutions, then perhaps.” But Azrein’s faith never wavered.

And yesterday, what seemed impossible became reality. 💫

This is not just Azrein’s story—it is a reminder to all of us: never stop your children from making wishes. Their innocent faith is powerful. Where we, as adults, see impossibility, their hearts hold unshakable belief.

Azrein’s story is proof that when faith is pure, the blessings of the Imam flow in ways we cannot imagine.

Alhamdulillah, azrein is truly blessed. And , we are humbled, grateful, and in awe of the Noor that guides us all. 🌺
Also that he an absolutely normal and healthy child and not on wheelchair.

2025, September 12:

Here is one Audio in Gujarati of an emotional lady who attended Didar: https://ismaili.net/timeline/2025/2025- ... imony.opus

Below message has been posted by the parents of the boy Bala picked to hug:

Correction of a previous post:

The mother of this child get in touch with me. The child that MHI is holding IS NOT IN A WHEELCHAIR.

From the parents of the child:

Yam everyone,

We would like to share something important as Azrein’s parents. Recently, many wrong messages have been spreading on social media, and we kindly request everyone not to forward them further.

✨ Firstly, Azrein was never in a wheelchair — he is a healthy, normal boy.
✨ Secondly, he did not carry a pen himself or break any guidelines. Bappa himself asked for a pen, and the volunteers had arranged it.
✨ Lastly, Azrein never said he doesn’t accept Mawla Shah Raheem (Imam of the Time) until Bappa hugs him and gives an autograph — that is completely wrong. Like any innocent child, he simply had a heartfelt question. He always wondered why Mawla Shah Karim passed away before he could meet him. His only wish was to meet Shah Karim, and today Mawla Shah Raheem fulfilled that wish in the most beautiful way 💖 — showing him that it is the same Noor, the same Light.

The message that “Azrein will believe in Bappa only if Bappa hugs him and gives an autograph” is not true. Please do not pass such messages.

🙏 With love and gratitude, we request you all to share only what is true. Let us all treasure this special moment with happiness, unity, and respect.

Similar incident during Golden Jubilee with Shah Karim in Zanzibar.

Karume’s son was the president of Zanzibar then.

After lunch at the state house as Shah Karim was about to sit in his car, President requests Shah Karim to pray for rain.

“There is a terrible drought, farmers are desperate and businesses are ready to tumble. Please your highness, pray for us.”

Shah Karim holds presidents forearm with both hands and said: “I assure you your excellency, it will rain tonight”.

(I was present).

Later that night it rained hard every 20 minutes or so…

Next morning in the Swahili news paper the headline read:
MVUA - BARKATI WA BABA AGAKHANI.

He showered blessings on the Jamat and reminded us of his immense love and affection. Hazar Imam later granted a separate mulaqat to young members of the Jamat at Kololo Jamatkhana in Kampala.

Arzina Kurji, President of the Ismaili Council for Uganda, delivered a welcome address, and Mukhi Saheb of Kampala Darkhana submitted bayʿa to the Imam on behalf of the Jamat.

To celebrate the happy occasion, the Jamat prepared an art installation entitled Saba’ Turuq Ila an-Nur, or Seven Paths to the Light.

Testimony Uganda Didar September 10, 11, 12 2025

Post by mahebubchatur »

Dear All

Please find below my reflections on this blessed visit :

10 September – The Majestic Arrival

The padhramani opened in splendour. At 5 p.m., inside Entebbe Airport, Mowlana Hazar Imam (MHI) was received with full state honours. A guard of honour lined His path as He stood on a ceremonial podium while the Ugandan National Anthem and the Nshid-e-Imamah were performed by the Royal Band of Uganda. The setting, solemn and majestic, was then softened by vibrant traditional dancers. The presence of Princess Zahra and Prince Aly-Muhammad added to the beauty of the moment.

Outside, the entire Jamat, including many murids from abroad, was invited to share in the welcome. Shuttles brought thousands from Coco Beach to a specially prepared UN zone shaded by a vast shamiana. Volunteers offered delicious pies and mango juice as Mowla’s beloved geets filled the air. Over 2,000 murids lined a kilometre-long route, each waving dual flags of the Imam and Uganda. When the first police escort appeared, chants of devotion rose. MHI’s car moved slowly, His window lowered, smiling and waving so every soul received His blessings. Princess Zahra and Prince Alymohamed were also waving at the crowds … oh what a blessing! Shukhran lillah Allahamdullilah 🙏🙏

After this extraordinary welcome, we began the more-than-one-hour drive back to Kampala and the Kampala Serena Hotel. We crossed a field to reach the waiting coach, lingered as it filled, and travelled to Coco Beach to arrange an Uber for the final stretch. Naturally, we assumed that Shah Rahim, who had departed with an official escort, would have arrived long before us. Yet, upon entering the Serena through the garden, we discovered a large gathering in the lobby: MHI had not yet arrived. In sheer wonder—Zahe Naseeb!—we realised we would welcome Him again. Moments later He entered, radiant and smiling, followed by Princess Zahra and Prince Aly-Muhammad, to an applause from the murids in the lobby .

11 September – Morning of Testing and Blessing

The next morning dawned bright and sunny. After breakfast, all the donors departed by coach for the AKU function, while those of us who were not donors remained at the Serena. We gathered expectantly in the lobby as barricades were placed near the lifts. Princess Zahra and Prince Aly-Muhammad emerged first and departed to their waiting cars.
Everyone then waited in anticipation, believing the lift had been held for Shah Rahim. My brother and daughter sat in the bar area, calmly accepting that a senior volunteer ( name withheld ) was blocking part of the seating as part of “protocol.” I waited in the lobby.

But a different plan was unfolding. While the non-donor Jamat waited by the lifts, leaders quietly brought the Imam from the garden side directly to His car, giving the impression He was still upstairs. The doorman overheard MHI question the leaders about this and say, “You must change your ways,” expressing His desire to see His murids. Though Shah Rahim tried to wave to those of us in the lobby from outside, my brother missed the moment. The sense of loss was deep; he wept, and soon thunderclouds gathered and rain fell, nature itself seemed to share his sorrow.
Yet by divine grace, this was only a passing test. From then on, Shah Rahim was always brought through the front entrance, allowing every heart to behold Him. Shukhar, Mowla.

12 September – A Loving Farewell

On the final day, after a multifaith meeting at the conference centre opposite the hotel, Shah Rahim prepared to depart for the airport. The Jamat, full of love and eager for a final glimpse, pleaded to stand on the side where His car would pause so they could offer a proper goodbye. But once again “protocol” was invoked, this time by a long-time senior volunteer, known for her strictness since the Serena opened in 2006. She insisted that everyone remain on the opposite embankment.
Even so, His love could not be restrained. As the motorcade emerged, Shah Rahim lowered His window, extended His blessed hand, and acknowledged the Jamat as petals showered His car, a moving sign of the Hand of Ali. And to mention here , just 30 minutes before we were thrilled to see Prince Aly-Muhammad walk from the Serena to the conference centre to join Shah Rahim , a heart-warming sight !

Closing Reflections

From the majestic state welcome to the double blessing on the first day, from the morning of trial and tears to the final shower of petals, every moment in Uganda was filled with baraka. Our hearts overflow with shukranas for the privilege of welcoming our beloved Imam on all three days. With deep gratitude and humility we say: Shukran lillah wa-l-hamdulillah—all praise and thanks to the Almighty for a journey of miracles, love, and unforgettable joy.

As Shah Rahim reminded us in His Paris Farman, experiences that deepen faith should be shared so they may inspire others. It is in that spirit that we offer this humble account of three blessed days in Uganda.

Ya ali Madad
Tazmin Farez and Zafeera

Dear All, including the Noorani Family,

I sincerely thank Taj (TAZ) for sharing the attached video clips and for providing such a heart-touching, loving testimony.

The videos and testimony reflect both the joy and challenges experienced by the Jamat. They recount moments when access to Didar was withheld, with members quietly diverted or restricted by Leaders not Imam’s protocol, despite their peaceful devotion and loyalty.

One poignant example describes Imam Shah Rahim being escorted away from the main entrance while the Jamat waited patiently, yearning for a Didar - glimpse.

The deep sense of loss felt by those outside was so profound that even nature seemed to share in their sorrow.

Yet by divine grace, such trials passed, and eventually, the front entrance was opened, allowing hearts to behold Him

These moments underscore the highest form of worship: standing in patience, prayer, and love for Mawlana Hazar Imam. They remind us of the unwavering devotion of the Jamat and of the sacred responsibility of leaders to ensure that no faithful Murids are excluded from worship, and prayers which includes Didar

Attached are your four video clips that capture these moments, reflecting both the enduring love of the Jamati members and the ongoing challenges they face from the same group of leaders for decades who are still witholding access to constitution Farmans & even to Imam’s Didar which they now admit is the highest worship & prayers for every Ismaili Muslim.

With respect and gratitude,

M Chatur
