ISLAMABAD: Spiritual leader of the Ismaili Shai Muslim community and its 50th Imam, Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday on his first official six-day visit, according to officials.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan met President Asif Ali Zardari at the President’s House in Islamabad on Wednesday, officials said.
He is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of the government and will remain in the country from May 20 to May 26.
During his visit, he is expected to travel to multiple areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, attend public gatherings and participate in ceremonies.

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Islamabad today on an official visit to Pakistan, at the invitation of the government. He was welcomed at the airport by the President of Pakistan His Excellency Asif Ali Zardari and his daughter First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. Also present were Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister for Information; Saleem Mandviwalla, Member of the Senate; Nizar Mewawalla, President of the Ismaili Council for Pakistan; Sultan Ali Allana, Director of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development; and a delegation of Jamati leaders.
President Zardari and Hazar Imam then travelled together to Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President's official residence, where a formal guard of honour was presented. Following a bilateral meeting, President Zardari is hosting a banquet this evening in honour of the visit.
In the days ahead, Mawlana Hazar Imam will meet with Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and other senior government officials in the capital, before travelling to Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral to spend time the Jamat in the Northern Areas of the country, home to a large concentration of Ismailis.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral carry centuries of rich heritage and history, set against some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. Once an integral link on the ancient Silk Road, the region today is a global hub for mountaineering and cultural tourism, known for its distinctive blend of traditions.
Across these valleys and mountain communities, preparations have been underway for weeks, with the Jamat planning, building, and celebrating in anticipation of welcoming their Imam.

Mawlana Hazar Imam attended a dinner this evening hosted in his honour by the President of Pakistan His Excellency Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President’s official residence.
Guests at the banquet included Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal and Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir, Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah.
Also in attendance were federal ministers, members of parliament and members of the diplomatic community.
The dinner followed a meeting between Hazar Imam and President Zardari, where they discussed the well established partnership between the Ismaili Imamat and Pakistan, including AKDN’s various projects and programmes across the country.
AKDN has been active in Pakistan since 1905. Its agencies complement the government’s efforts across health, education, rural development, culture, and economic development, and have received numerous national and international awards for their programmes.
This is the first time Hazar Imam is visiting Pakistan since 2024, when President Zardari conferred upon him the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the nation's highest civilian award, in recognition of his family’s longstanding contributions to the country. Mawlana Shah Karim received the same honour in 1983, joining a distinguished list of recipients that includes Queen Elizabeth II and Nelson Mandela.

There is something deeply moving about what is happening in the northern areas of Pakistan at this moment. My family is preparing for Deedar in the Passu region, where a grand Darbar is being held. Jamat from many small villages are journeying together toward the nearby village where the Deedargah and Darbar Pandal have been lovingly prepared. Families have already begun leaving a day earlier so they may arrive in time for this blessed occasion. My mother shared that two or three families are being accommodated together in the homes of local Ismaili Jamati members. The travelling Jamat has been informed that the host Jamat will lovingly take care of food and accommodation, while requesting everyone to carry some perishable items and to show special care and respect to elders and children.
The entire atmosphere, from the preparations to the Deedargah itself, feels like a glimpse of Jannah on earth. Jamatkhanas have decorated beautiful entrance gates representing their Jamats, adorned with messages from qasidas and Qur'anic ayas. Every heart seems to be beating with one emotion, one anticipation, one love.
But Deedar in the northern areas of Pakistan is not just a Deedar. It is unique in its own sense, not only for the Ismaili Jamat but also for many sister communities around them. There is a happiness that spreads beyond boundaries. Volunteers step forward without hesitation, standing in rain and cold, picking up rocks one by one, clearing landslides and roads so murids can safely reach the Deedargah. People from other communities who have benefited from the Imam's institutions also feel a sense of joy and pride because they too see happiness arriving in their region.
There is something incredibly beautiful and humbling about the devotion of the northern Jamat. Their love carries the memory of hardships, struggles, sorrows and sacrifices of generations before them. Remembering their departed ruhani family members who are no longer present to witness this blessed occasion, many shed tears as they await the arrival of Noor. Their concern is often not whether they will touch the Imam or wave at the Imam. Their greatest desire is simply to preserve and carry their love and devotion deeply in their hearts. There is something in that sincerity from which all of us can learn.
I can only wish I were there physically, but my heart is at peace knowing that my mother will receive the Deedar of the Imam of the Time. She has been sending voice messages filled with emotion and deep sentiments, and hearing them touches the heart in ways words cannot describe.
The northern Jamat flourished under Mawlana Shah Karim's Noorani chhatrchhaya, under his unconditional love, care and guidance. That is a blessing we can never forget for as long as we breathe. Yet the continuity of Imamat in Imam-e-Zaman remains an eternal mercy and a living grace. His karam and nawazish upon us are beyond measure. Even if we were given many lifetimes, perhaps even then we would never be able to fully express our shukrana.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif hosted a breakfast meeting in honour of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V on the occasion of his first official visit to Pakistan.

Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V on Thursday expressed the desire to continue cooperation with Pakistan in various human development initiatives during a breakfast meeting hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.
Prince Rahim is undertaking his first visit to Pakistan since being named the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community last year.
According to a statement by the PMO, the premier warmly welcomed Prince Rahim and appreciated his commitment to fostering peace, stability, and constructive engagement with governments and international partners. The prime minister also assured him of Pakistan’s shared commitment to these ideals.

Prime Minister Hosts Breakfast Meeting in Honour of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif hosted a breakfast meeting in honour of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V on the occasion of his first official visit to Pakistan.
The Prime Minister warmly welcomed His Highness and appreciated His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V’s commitment to fostering peace, stability, and constructive engagement with governments and international partners.
He assured His Highness of Pakistan’s shared commitment to these ideals.
The Prime Minister highlighted the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), and commended AKDN’s contributions in rural development, healthcare, education, disaster resilience, climate adaptation, renewable energy, digital skills training, and youth entrepreneurship. He particularly appreciated AKDN’s impactful work in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, especially in remote and vulnerable communities.
The Prime Minister encouraged AKDN to deepen and expand its partnership with Pakistan, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, where the network’s institutional presence and community outreach are highly valued. He also welcomed enhanced engagement with Aga Khan University (AKU), noting its major contributions in healthcare and higher education.
Recognizing His Highness’s advocacy for environmental stewardship, the Prime Minister emphasized that AKDN remained a natural and trusted partner in Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen climate resilience, particularly in glacially vulnerable northern areas.
The Prime Minister thanked His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V for visiting Pakistan and assured him that Pakistan would always remain his second home. He expressed the hope that His Highness’s regular visits would further strengthen the longstanding bonds between Pakistan and the Ismaili community.
The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V's generosity for making the Serena Hotel available on gratis basis for Islamabad Talks.
At the end، the Prime Minister extended heart felt condolences on the passing of his late father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV. The Prime Minister paid tribute to the late Aga Khan’s enduring humanitarian legacy and his longstanding association with Pakistan spanning nearly seven decades.
The Prime Minister also presented a commemorative stamp issued by Pakistan Post to honour His Late Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV for his services to Pakistan.
His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V thanked the Prime Minister for a warm welcome extended to him in Pakistan and expressed his desire to continue cooperation with Pakistan in various human development initiatives.

Today, Mawlana Hazar Imam was hosted by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad. Following the meeting, the Prime Minister presented a commemorative stamp issued by Pakistan Post in honour of Mawlana Shah Karim’s legacy, and for his services to Pakistan.
